Early this summer I got an unexpected message from a friend from high school who I haven’t had much chance to talk to in several years, Jocelyn! She mentioned that she was wanting to get some photos of their dog, sweet Reyn - the goodest girl who while she still has the energy of a pup. Reyn was having the time of her life as we shot in a field and o’er hill and dale (literally) but when we got back to her yard, I saw an opportunity with a little green archway. I had a chance to shoot with Amanda Thick coming into her hime to photograph her two cats, Gizmo and Guinness. While each of them were characters, Gizmo made me laugh. The poor little girl (and I mean little, she is *so* Smol) did not seem very happy with a stranger and a camera in her face, though she got lots of treatos for the effort. But her adorable and angry little face reminded me of grumpy cat. For the record, she did not have this expression the whole time, I just happened to capture a priceless moment. I hope she forgives me!

Despite the heat (and the bugs!) I got a chance to work last night with Jill Labas Greenslade and her band of boys last night! While the no-see-ums were driving us crazy (how do they manage to evade my glasses and fly directly into my eye-balls?!) you’d never know these guys were bothered at all!

Another adorable brown eyed girl… on a brown eyed background! To say yesterday was a bit out of the ordinary shoot is an understatement! I am the first to admit that I am not super proficient working with horses but I told a client I was willing to… give it a shot? 😂

Seriously though, working with Jasper and Hickory was a cool experience and I may need to try some more equine photography very soon!

The air is getting a bit cooler in the evenings and that means… we’re back to business! Or it’s a coincidence. I had Rick pop into the studio for some new headshots yesterday. I often ask people if they want (slightly) more dramatic lighting or light and airy. While often I find business portraits lean to light and airy, can you guess which style I tend to prefer?

My season of puppies continues! Last night I got the chance to meet these cuties, Finn and Bert (and hooman parents Judy and David) and once again, we had the perfect weather for the shoot around their home! Finn was a bit suspicious of me, especially anytime I got down to his level and alerted all the neighbours of this suspicious lady. They sang the song of their people in response!

I’ve been having so much fun this year with all these pets, it actually makes me think about how I’d like to do photos next year… I’ve got an idea or two in the hopper… in the meantime… just look at how cute they are!

I got a chance to photograph Willow in studio yesterday. And this frame reminded me of something I used to do about a decade ago to amuse myself with sort of outtakes, if I got an animal (or human) looking a bit exasperated… and given today is the right day of the week, it seemed fitting to do a call-back.
