I DID IT. 🥹😭🏅
The Chicago Marathon. My FIRST marathon. A WORLD MAJOR. And honestly, I don’t even know if I have the words to explain what this experience meant to me.
The vibes? The crowd? NEXT LEVEL. Chicago showed UP. The energy was unreal, and there were moments when the crowds carried you when your own body just didn’t have much left to give.
And let me tell you… IT WAS HOT. 🥵 SO. HOT. This was one of the hardest things I have ever done. There were moments when every step felt like a battle, and I had to dig deep in ways I never expected.
But I wasn’t alone.
The support from Native Women Run (NWR) was something I will never forget. The incredible women running alongside me, the encouragement, the support, the mentorship, and the feeling of being surrounded by women who understand what this journey means. There is something so powerful about women lifting each other up and reminding each other that we are capable of more than we think.
And then there were the moments that got me through.
Hearing the drum group. 🥹❤️
And that NWR cheer station at mile 21.
MILE. TWENTY-ONE.
I was tired. I was hot. My body was hurting, and I still had miles to go. But seeing those familiar faces, getting to hug my boys, hearing the encouragement, and feeling that support when I needed it most gave me something I can’t even explain. Those moments will stay with me forever.
This was about so much more than running 42.2 kilometres.
I set out to do something that once felt impossible, and even when it got hard, even when the heat was relentless, I kept going.
I DID IT. I AM A MARATHONER.
Chicago, thank you for an experience I will never forget. NWR, thank you for showing me the power of community, culture, mentorship, and women supporting women.
My heart is so full. My legs and feet may never forgive me, I did something today that I will be proud of for the rest of my life.
First marathon. World Major. Forever a part of my story. 🏅❤️🥹
