What happens when the masks come off? 🌼

On October 13, Agrimony by Sophie Dow comes to the Prince George Playhouse — walking the edge between an evocative live concert and visceral contemporary dance.

Four dancers in animal masks and five live musicians weave together the songs of Laura Reznek in a heart-centred story inspired by the small yellow agrimony flower — used in plant medicine as a catalyst for honesty and the dissolving of the masks we create.

SEEING DOUBLE: A DOUBLE FEATURE + PLAYHOUSE AFTER DARK

One ticket. Two completely different performances. And a whole night to experience them.

Seeing Double brings A Wake of Vultures to the Prince George Playhouse for an evening of bold, genre-defying live performance.

The night begins with Walking at Night by Myself, an immersive audiovisual performance where two women set out on a nighttime walk and the familiar gradually becomes strange. Movement, projection, light and surround sound play with what you see, what you hear—and what you think you saw.

Then, take a break.

Head outside to Playhouse After Dark, our night market featuring food, drinks, local vendors and live entertainment. Grab something to eat, explore the market, meet up with friends, and enjoy the atmosphere before heading back inside for the second half of the night.

The evening continues with K BODY AND MIND, a live science-fiction theatre experience set in a future where people can leave their old bodies behind. Part radio play, part silent film and part cyberpunk thriller, the production combines live performance, cinematic sound, film and projection to create a sci-fi world that unfolds both onstage and in your imagination.

Two performances. A night market in between. One very different night at the theatre.

K BODY AND MIND is a live science-fiction theatre experience set in a future where people can leave their old bodies behind.

The story follows Kawabi, a security specialist hoping to escape the scars of sickness, hunger, and war. She joins The Grove, an idealistic start-up where people can inhabit bioengineered, shareable bodies. But when something hostile hacks into the network and begins taking over the minds and bodies of its inhabitants, Kawabi must fight to save her new home while confronting something from her own past.

What makes the production unusual is how the story is told. Imagine a cinematic radio drama happening around you while the performers onstage move through an almost silent film. Voices, cinematic sound, live performers, lighting, projection, and film intentionally move in and out of sync.

The audience has to put those pieces together—and the huge science-fiction action movie isn't happening entirely onstage. Part of it happens in your imagination.

Walking at Night by Myself begins simply: two women in identical striped dresses walk together into the night.

But gradually, something starts to feel different.

Their footsteps become surrounded by an immersive soundscape. Light and projections move across their striped clothing, revealing unexpected colours, patterns and ghost-like images. As the sound, movement and visuals build, it becomes increasingly difficult to trust exactly what you are seeing and hearing.

Using two live performers, projection and 8-channel surround sound, the piece transforms a simple nighttime walk into an eerie audiovisual experience that plays with perception, repetition and the uncanny.

There isn't a traditional storyline to follow. Instead, the story emerges through what happens to the performers—and to your own senses—as the world around them becomes increasingly unfamiliar.

Walking at Night by Myself is an unabashedly hypnotic and spooky audiovisual show—a study in form and rhythm evoking confusion and the uncanny. It’s a psychological horror where the plot unfolds through visual interference patterns occurring between the costumes and projection, in tandem with live-performed surround sound design and choreography, creating a performance that transcends from the spectacular to the phenomenological: from seeing to experiencing. This experiential work questions the surety of our senses, opens us up to the changing environs around us, and lulls us deeper into our own internal worlds
