The Pirahã people of the Amazon have a remarkable way of understanding identity. After a major or unexplainable life event, a person may take a new name, and become, in a very real sense, someone new.

Call them by their old name and they may not even look up. That name belonged to the person they were before.

Over one lifetime, someone can live as several different people, each beginning where the last one ended. It makes you wonder how much of who we are exists only because we keep answering to an old name.

Erika and I love sneaking away for a night in the woods whenever we can.

On this night, the sky was glowing this rich purple through the trees, we sat by the fire telling each other stories until neither of us knew what time it was. I love losing track of time these days and always better with my favourite person.

The sun is setting on summer.

I don’t know about you but I could have used a few more days. Thanks for hanging with us and getting out to all of our promoted events. 5,000 followers.

Less than a month ago we were celebrating 4,000. Now we’re at 5,000 and we’re incredibly grateful.

Q365 is built around this community, so a huge thank you to 460 Realty, Orca Law, our Photo & Video of the Day contributors, everyone who sends us events, promotes their businesses and shows with us, and everyone who shares, comments and encourages us along the way.

To our friends and family who have supported us from the beginning…thank you. Most of all, thank you to you. The people who follow along, cheer us on and care about what’s happening around Powell River and qathet.

We’ll keep bringing you the people, places, events, stories and good stuff happening here, along with a little fun in an overly serious world.

We sat down. We talked. People opened up.

For our first What’s Up qathet pop-up podcast, we had the chance to sit across from some incredible people from qathet and beyond and have some genuinely great conversations. Local stories, big ideas, personal experiences, laughs, and a few things we probably weren’t expecting.

And then… we got the audio wrong.

Technical issue. The footage is there, but the sound isn’t where it needs to be. Which means we can’t share the interviews the way we intended.

We’re still learning. We’re building this thing as we go, and sometimes you absolutely nail it, and sometimes you learn the hard way.

We’re not too cool to admit when we got something wrong.

So we’re taking the lesson, keeping the conversations, and getting back at it.

What’s Up qathet is going places. We’ll be popping up in different locations, sitting down with different people, and continuing to find out what’s really going on around here.

To everyone who gave us their time, their stories, and their trust: thank you. We’re grateful.
