- The founders of the Cloverdale country and bluegrass band Jackson Hollow are seeing something new for them.
This year, vocalist Tianna Lefebvre and her husband, fiddler and mandolinist Mike Sanyshyn, dropped their second album, Deep Blue Sky, with the song “Wildflower” as their first single.
But when their next single, “A Lovely Day,” recently came out, “Wildflower” returned to the radio charts for a second time.
It’s been a pleasant surprise for the pair, who will make their way to Port Moody on Sept. 26 to open the fifth season of the Inlet Music Series. They’ll bring upright bassist Patrick Metzger and guitarist Mark Sullivan for the show, which is produced by Port Moody residents and music veterans Bill Sample and Darlene Cooper.
In an interview with Freshet News, Sanyshyn said he’s known Sample for years as a band leader and suggested the JUNO Award-nominated band take Inlet stage to plug its latest tunes, as well as songs from its début 2023 album Roses.
“We were looking for a listening audience, unlike at festivals and community events,” Sanyshyn said. “Bluegrass is more acoustic and the lyrics are down-to-earth, so we wanted a listening room that was focused.”
“We wanted something that we could showcase more of our own music,” Lefebvre added.
Still, that doesn’t mean Jackson Hollow will shy away from covers; those hits will be “a palette cleanser in between our music,” he said. “It will offer something familiar for the crowd.”
On Sept. 22, the pair will be at Kamloops’s Sagebrush Theatre to open for The Legend of Garth Brooks, a tribute act, and on Dec. 13, Jackson Hollow performs at a Métis Nation of BC event in Kelowna; a few corporate events are in the mix, too.
Sample said he and Cooper are looking forward to the next season of their Inlet Music Series, “bringing high-quality music to the Inlet Theatre in Port Moody.”
