Kevin Chen has been called "the gentle giant of humility and genius" and yesterday, Parksville was honoured with this 20 year old's unbelievable musical perfection and talent. Our subscribers were captivated by his technical precision and passion. His renditions of Chopin, Scarlatti and Liszt brought two standing ovations and applause from the audience.

On Friday, April 11 the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy performed at Knox United Church in Parksville as part of OCCS's Concert-in-Schools Program.
Kwalikum Secondary School students and Brockelhurst Secondary School students (a visiting band from Kamloops) arrived in their school buses; Ballenas Secondary School students walked down from Ballenas – nearly 200 students plus music/band teachers, parent-volunteer supervisors, and OCCS Board members were ready for the show.
The hour-long performance ended with an active Question & Answer session. Lots of questions were asked. It was a Friday afternoon and the end of school week but the students were engaged, even after having performed in a week-long band Festival in Port Alberni. The interest and the enjoyment were obvious.
