🌸 Who is the Paisley Concert Choir?
—written by director Linda Finlay

The Paisley Concert Choir has its roots in a children's soprano and alto choir from the 1990s made up of elementary and high school students. When the director and pianist moved away, a group from the choir decided to make it a 4-part mixed choir, advertised for a director and a piano player, and we've been the Paisley Concert Choir ever since. I have been with this choir for the last 26 years.

My music experience has been with vocal and instrumental music programs in the elementary school system of Bruce County. Since retiring from teaching, I learned to play organ and so became a church organist for ten years in Owen Sound and Hanover. I came to realize that I enjoy working with adults and have never looked back. I was the director of a ladies’ choir in Walkerton and several church choirs before I came to the Paisley choir.

The Paisley choir is made up of about 50 people from a wide geographic area: Owen Sound, south of Kincardine, Port Elgin, Southampton, Hanover, Mildmay, Walkerton, and Paisley, and all areas in between.

Our concerts are eclectic; we don’t have themes. We sing all types of music, though not all in the same concert: Everything from pop, folk, musical theatre, classical, and art songs. Some of the song titles for this upcoming concert are: You Raise Me Up, A Tribute to Queen, What Was I Made For (from the movie Barbie), And So It Goes, Thank you for the Music (by Abba), and Nothin’ Gonna Stumble My Feet (a spiritual).

We usually have two seasons, Christmas and spring. Each season we perform our program in three places: Hanover, Owen Sound, and Paisley. Tickets may be bought from choir members or they are usually available at the door.
