Vendor Spotlight!
We are so excited to introduce Lori Skitt of Wildly One. A recent addition to the community of Eton Rugby, Lori and her family have quickly become some of our favourites. ❤️
Originally from the Ottawa Valley area, I have lived and worked in NW Ontario for over 20 years and I have come to understand the importance of place, connection and community in all aspects of our lives.
I began this line of jewellery and business in 2019 as a necessary creative outlet to build and showcase the strength/beauty, discovery and connection I find within myself, with the natural world – and within community.
Each piece of jewellery and sculpture I create has a story to tell – each contains natural items that I have curated while out living and exploring in NW Ontario. I select the items for various reasons; colour, curves, texture, wood density, and location – but primarily they catch my eye and elicit a certain feeling or emotion. Before setting the driftwood/wood/pinecone in resin, I may sit with the pieces for hours (off and on 😊) – holding it, changing the angles, and trying to find just the right curve, pattern, or texture to highlight. Many of the shapes and patterns found in the pieces are dictated solely by the wood or fiber itself, and the work I do is an attempt to showcase the sometimes unseen beauty. As my work with these materials is evolving I am beginning to notice my life experiences (movement, colours, elements) expressed in the composition of the pieces. Nothing seems to happen simply by chance.
