Niagara Triathlon/Duathlon Update:
After closely monitoring the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) over the past several days, as well as the forecast for Saturday, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Niagara Triathlon/Duathlon.
In consultation with Triathlon Ontario, our medical team, and local authorities, we determined that the forecasted "high-risk" AQHI (7+) in the Grimsby area is not conducive to safely hosting the event. Environment and Climate Change Canada has also issued an Air Quality Warning for the region, advising people to limit time outdoors and to reschedule or cancel outdoor sports, activities, and events.
The health and safety of our participants, volunteers, officials, vendors, spectators, and staff is always our highest priority. While we know this news will be extremely disappointing, this decision was made with the well-being of everyone involved at the forefront and was not made lightly.
We recognize that the timing of this announcement is challenging. We wanted to allow every reasonable opportunity for the forecast to improve while also providing athletes with enough notice to adjust their travel and weekend plans. Based on the latest forecasts and guidance, we believe making the decision now is in the best interest of everyone involved.
Early next week, we will send registered athletes a follow-up email outlining the options available to them. We kindly ask for your patience in the meantime and request that you wait for further communication before contacting us, as we work through the next steps.
We sincerely appreciate your understanding, support, and the commitment you made to be part of this event. We share in your disappointment and thank you for your patience as we navigate this difficult situation.
