Gailene is the designer, artist and maker behind Designs by Gailene. I design and make everything. As much as possible I start with materials that I already have and I am acquiring 'new' materials all the time. I make clothing, costumes, artworks, sculptures, props and accessories. I'm a seamstress, artist, milliner and haberdasher among my many skills and talents. My mind is always creating and m

y hands try to oblige it with skills and talents developed throughout an often interesting life. I am also a dancer and dance teacher. The style of dance and have chosen to perform is Steampunk Belly Fusion. It's a fusion of Belly Dance and Tribal Dance techniques with the music and aesthetics of Steampunk. I also perform and teach classic Belly Dance. My newest project is to offer private instruction and small workshops (2-6 participants) in Theatrical Dance Fusion. Telling a story with dance in a new, fun and entertaining manner.

Back in February and March I had some days when I was able to make some of my personal projects. I made this pair of palazzo pants using a favourite 100% silk fabric I've had forever (teal with purple dots). There's still lots for me to make a fit&flare shirt dress too. And I have the perfect fabric to make a top to go with the palazzo pants... also silk.

It has been a beautiful warm Spring the last 2 days. I've been doing some light Spring cleaning jobs and took the plastic of the windows. More for today but it's cold outside... again 😧😵‍💫
Hope to get some sewing done today but cleaning first... major dusting and floor cleaning.

This week is full of alterations and repairs... pants to hem and adjust, a jacket to resize, leather to repair, and a table-runner quilt to assemble.
Bridal season is off to a good start too. I have the best brides... all perfectly reasonable.
