If you and your partner decide to get married on Prince Edward Island, you MUST have a marriage license issued by Vital Statistics of PEI, NOT by the province you may currently live in. (I.e. you both live in New Brunswick/Nova Scotia, but want to get married in PEI. Therefore, you MUST have your license issued by PEI, NOT NB/NS.)

When your partner and you are granted your marriage license, you'll receive a brown envelope with 3 pieces of paper in it. One is a receipt, the other two are to be given to your marriage officiant/church leader as soon as possible; These are your marriage license and your marriage certificate!
