In case you didn't make it to the last Candidates meeting at the Mount Forest Arena, hosted by the Arthur and Mount Forest Chamber's of Commerce, here was my opening speech. I hope you were able to get to the Arthur Arena for the Lions Club event, it too was a very informative meeting.
I believe they still have that meeting up on their page for viewing.
"Thank you to the constituent for participating in this election, and good luck to all the candidates.
If you have walked past the Art Alley Way on the Main st Mount Forest or the Murals beside tipsy fox. If you have walked passed the redevelopment of the old Tea Room or enjoyed the revitalization of the gas station on the corner of Highways 89 and 6 you have enjoyed the impact I brought to Mount Forest.
I was deeply saddened to hear of the new residents in ward 3 worried and shocked about weekly brown water in Arthur and saddened in a different way to hear the resignation and acceptance long time constituents had to their own dismay. I brought their level of intense concern to the last meeting, to the surprise of some council and township staff it would seem.
I have had my own concerns about WN fall on deaf years directed at current council members. I know how it feels to be dismissed and concerns downplayed with condescending responses. It doesnโt feel good. I chose action in the past and I choose action now by running for Ward 3
Be an educated voter. Look into current council attendance to meetings, not just township meetings but the ones each councilor is designated to in the community like the BIA and the Chamber of Commerce and others. I have been in those rooms so I know the answer to that. Some of you got to know me door to door, at the 3 meet and greets I personally set up at local venues, in the interview on 88.7 or on my facebook candidate page.
Noone is meant to sit on council indefinitely. The purpose of having elections is To diversify the perspective, inject new inciteful ideas that can revitalize and create more robust communities and keep community servants on their toes.
I believe this turn out is a shock to current council and staff that have become accustomed to acclaimed chairs and no door to door exchanges, but I think now more than ever transparent and consistent communication is needed with the big changes and expectations raining down from provincial gov.
The only thing that will never change is change itself. With change comes hope and excitement. New people to a new position is not bad, I have NEVER made the mistake that I couldnโt learn something new and effective from my apprentices. Coming into a new position provides a unique opportunity to see problems with fresh eyes & solve them without the limitations that stagnation in a position can cause.
I have had a few Wellington North constituents voice observation that my most recent community improvement efforts have been located in Mount Forest. This is where my business was located for the previous 5 years. Before that I was actively involved with improving KW region and supporting the community there while my business was located, and I was a resident, there. I see running for office like a job interview. If you worked at Canadian Tire and your interviewing at Home Hardware you are going to tell them everything you did at CT and prove what you can do for HH. Iโm excited to bring my Years of business ownership, volunteerism and creative community revitalization to Ward 3
I look forward to being the ward 3 representative on township council"
