It’s a SURPRISE 60th birthday party!!

This day was so special from start to finish. Guests arrived and were welcomed through a hallway filled with photos from throughout the guest of honours life. It was quite literally, a walk down memory lane!

But the best part? That hallway was hiding the party behind it! Once it was time for dinner, the curtains opened to reveal the rest of the space, completely transformed with dining tables, a bar, a stage, and everything ready for the guest of honour to celebrate surrounded by all of his favourite people.

Every detail was made personal to him, including custom cocktail napkins printed with fun facts about the guest of honour! And with all of the guests asked to wear white, the entire night looked just as fun as it felt.

Now, you might be wondering how we managed to keep an event of this size a surprise…

We did pretty well, until a tent started going up on their property. That’s when our guest of honours suspicions started to rise. He may have known something was happening, but he definitely didn’t know just how epic the night was going to be.

And of course, there was only one way to end a 60th birthday like this, an epic dance party with all of his favourite people!

Happy 60th, G! What a night!!

And thank you to all of the amazing vendors that brought this amazing birthday party to life! We couldn’t have done it without you!

That time when we canceled the wedding, flew to Banff, and had a micro wedding on the side of the road!!

About three months before the wedding, a combination of the pandemic & all the challenges that came with planning a large celebration led us to do something completely unexpected. We canceled everything about 3 months before the original wedding date, booked flights to Banff, and started planning a wedding that looked nothing like the original.

Yes, Olivia wore her wedding dress all the way up the mountain.
And yes… it was every bit as crazy as it sounds!!!

Earlier that week, the groom & I spent an afternoon driving the backroads of Banff until we found the perfect ceremony spot. On the wedding day, they exchanged vows there, took family photos, and then immediately started our hike so we’d make it to the summit before sunset.

The hike was no joke. The bride & groom had spent the week hiking & getting used to the elevation, but the rest of us… not so much (lol). We had a pace to keep if we wanted those sunset photos, so there wasn’t much stopping to catch our breath.

We literally strapped the bride’s dress up with belts so she could climb, and somehow she made the entire hike in her gown while the groom did it in his suit.

About halfway up, we split into two groups so the couple & photographers could get ahead & have as much time as possible at the top. The rest of us followed about 15–20 minutes behind… slowly. We ran out of water, questioned every life decision we’d made, and I’m pretty sure we crawled the last stretch of that mountain.

Would I do it all again?

In a heartbeat.

It was exhausting, unforgettable, and one of the most incredible wedding days I’ve ever been part of. Some weddings are beautiful because of the flowers or the venue. This one was beautiful because it was completely, unapologetically them!!

People don’t always realize that with most tent weddings, we’re literally starting from the ground up!!

Just a few days earlier, this was nothing but an empty field. Piece by piece, we added an elevated deck, carpet, a tent, draping, furniture, candles, flowers… and then we filled it with the people who matter most!
