Fred Raper’s park definitely adds beauty to our downtown. I do believe it was the Lion’s club of Meaford who is responsible for the gazebo and brick walkway. You can see family names etched into some of the bricks. I am not 100% sure but my Grandma McAfee told me that this little girl ran across the road on Sykes near the park and passed away while her family was here on vacation. For years my family have planted flowers and kept this stone cleaned. Anyone walking by this stone feel free to give the flowers a wee drink!

O the sadness to this town when Amerock closed. I am sure when you talk to a local their grandparent, parents or aunts and uncles at one time worked in this plant. Here’s to the co worker lifetime friendships, to the good memories and to not forgetting Meaford has survived and still keeps chugging forward! Shannon had converted the front office space to The Coworking Corner Meaford and it looks amazing!

Legion road was home to our Meaford Legion Branch. Many meetings, dances and weddings were help in this yellow building. It at one time even housed a military tank! It was tore down years ago and now sits an empty lot.

51 Berry street has seen many business’s come and go. What started out as Ben and Mary Bishton owning a shoe shop( Mary was the sister of Hugh Knight from Knights of Meaford) to Paul’s Repair, Goode’s Computers and of course our wonderful little shop. Meeka absolutely loved the front deck. Snow, rain or sunshine she was out there watching the world go by. If those walls could talk the stories of by gone days and all the shoes that passed through that front door!

We have to rescue dogs on our property. This man pulls into our laneway and proceeds to let his two white dogs out to use our property as his dogs washroom. Thankfully Jade and Leela were not out front but who does that? And if our dogs attacked his on our property whose fault would it have been? My god people use some common sense!
It gets worse. Haley left flowers clearly marked with a name for a grandmother to give her granddaughter after the recital at Meaford Hall. She went back to the shop to wrap more flowers and when she came back they were gone. We just assumed that they had been picked up by the correct person. NOPE. Someone from the dance recital attendance just outright stole them! Who does this to a kids special bouquet ?
My faith in this world is very low today!

The corner of Coleman (Gray Ave) and Sykes is a busy area due to Tim Hortons but years ago there was a shop/variety and even a small go cart track. I have heard stories of teenagers hanging out at this space in what was maybe the 1950/1960’s. I vaguely remember the closed down track being left behind but don’t remember the building. I would love to know if anyone had pictures of this area ! Yes Daryl Burke this area once was home to a chip wagon!!!!!!!!!
