The Building Blocks Group

The Building Blocks Group The Building Blocks Group specializes in developing effective sports business strategies and program

Services include:
Sponsorship: Raising dollars for your business or event is always important. There are many companies looking to crack the market and willing to sponsor teams, events and organizations to help grow their business. Our team will help develop strategies and programs to help everyone win. Event Management: So many people and organizations want to run events but don’t realize the tim

e involved in doing so. Event management starts from building an idea to following through at the end of the event. Our group will help people and organizations take their event from the ground up, one block at a time. Ticketing: Teams and organizations are always looking to increase attendance to drive revenue but often don’t allocate the resources behind it. Our team will help analyze your ticketing practices and look at building solutions to help you sell out your next event. Media: This is an all-encompassing term that includes engaging your brand on media (digital or television) to media training for teams and organizations. With our vast network within the media industry, we will help you ensure that your people are ready for when the media comes knocking. Licensing: With so many knick-knacks and apparel companies out on the market, it is easy to find someone to throw a very inexpensive product to a client. Our job is to avoid going “cheap” by connecting your brand to the “right” product to make you look sharp and stand out. Our team will build retail presence and sales through licensing programs, rights negotiations, market research and strategic consulting. Graphic Design: If you look good, you feel good and can do great things! The challenge is teams and organizations often lack the time and resources to put the effort into making their product look great. Our team will work with clients to help them make a work of art so they will stand out among the crowd.

I had a great time attending the Meridian Credit Union Small Business Forum today where I listened to panels, guest speakers and networked with other delegates who shared their journey, experience and challenges as small business owners. There were several inspirational people in the room today that motivated me to keep working hard at being a self-employed entrepreneur. The day was also highlighted by the Keynote, Rick Mercer who delivered a funny yet motivational speech on being proud to be a Canadian!

Georgian College Sales and Fundraising Students Raise Over $5,000 For Charity

The Sales, Sponsorship and Fundraising class worked with two industry partners the Toronto Marlies, American Hockey League team and Campfire Circle in a project that taught students the process behind ticket sales and fundraising.

This Assignment was aimed at providing students with an in-depth understanding and application of the selling process and its key role in the sport business environment. As a key component of sport business, ticket sales are extremely critical to a successful organization. Students applied knowledge from in-class sessions including training by the Toronto Marlies and Campfire Circle staff and apply them to sell and to convince to purchase Toronto Marlies tickets. A portion of every ticket sale was directed to Campfire Circle, a privately funded charity that brings laughter and joy to kids and families affected by childhood cancer. Students also had an option to directly fundraise for Campfire Circle.

Students had a five-week window to develop sales and fundraising strategies and execute them. Over the course of the five-weeks, a ticket sales leaderboard was shared with the class with the top ticket-seller winning a set of Platinum Seats for an upcoming Marlies game.

At the conclusion of the five-week period, students presented to Campfire Circle who gave them direct feedback on their strategies and presentations. As for results, students sold 23 hockey tickets but raised $5,283 for Campfire Circle! The fundraising efforts will send two children to camp this summer.

Here are some testimonials from student experiences with this project:
“The main challenge I faced in this assignment was trying to sell tickets to a target audience with whom I had little prior contact and even less knowledge of the sport. I had to learn about the sport, its rules, and other related products on my own in order to understand how fans of this sport think about and purchase products and services.”

“Although getting people to go and enjoy a Marlies game would have been ideal, having all of the proceeds of donations going straight to Campfire Circle has more of an impact when it comes to helping the charity. With only 11 donations being able to raise just under $300 for the charity was a great success and being able to help a great cause gave me great satisfaction.”

A special thanks goes to Alex Iwanicki Ally Ariganello of MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Partnership) and Samara Rakhraj of Campfire Circle for collaborating with Georgian College on this project that gave students first-hand experience in the industry.
