The Windsor Lions Club was established in 1917. This non-profit organization has a long history of serving the blind and visually impaired for more than 100 years and plan to continue their mission into the next century.
They raise funds to be able to donate ‘White Canes’ locally🤍
Monetary Donations are greatly appreciated upon entry to the FALL MARKET. This will help the Club to continue to provide these services. All funds donated will go directly 💯% to the Club.
The Windsor Club also continues to advocate and support the official ‘Canadian Lions Club Eyeglass Recycling Centre’ providing recycled eyewear free of charge to people in developing countries. This Centre is located in a Calgary warehouse. Donated eyeglasses are inspected by volunteers. To date, approximately 7 million pairs have been used by people in at least 103 countries.
Following Helen Keller‘s 1925 challenge, the club made sight-saving and assisting the blind a major part of its mandate.
FACT:
***253 million people are blind or have moderate to severe distance vision impairment
***1.1 billion people average near-vision impairment simply because they don't have a pair of glasses
Recently my great-niece who is just 9 years young became blind due to complications after a surgery. It all began with seizures at 3 months of age, then an early diagnosis at 5 mos with a rare bone disorder called ‘Malignant Infantile Osteopetrosis’. She has been to many hospitals beginning with a bone marrow transplant at age 7 mos, chemo treatments and many blood transfusions. Now she has struggled through many surgeries. Just last year she was still able to play baseball. This year will be different for her as she now needs her white cane. Her first language is English while she attends a French School - so French is her second language. Now she is learning Braille which is her new life.
The Windsor Lions Club was able to donate a White Cane to Madalayna🤍
