If we’re ever wrong about a forecast, please, please let it be this one.

It’s rare that model data leaves us speechless, but this is one of those times. We were hoping the models would shift by now so we wouldn’t have to post this… but instead, they’ve only strengthened the freezing rain threat. Now, high-resolution models are painting an increasingly grim picture for Central and Eastern Ontario.

This is a very serious situation. Widespread power outages are likely, and in the hardest-hit areas, they could last for days or even weeks. Significant ice accumulation will also cause major damage to trees and infrastructure.

One model in particular, the HRRR, is likely overestimating the totals, but it’s showing freezing rain accumulations nearing 100mm in some areas. Even a quarter of that would be devastating—let alone if it comes anywhere close to verifying.

At this point, the regions most at risk appear to be Muskoka, Parry Sound, Simcoe County, Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough, and Kingston. It starts this evening and continues throughout the weekend.

However, some of the latest model runs are now shifting the freezing rain threat into parts of the GTA, particularly late Saturday into Sunday morning.

As always, forecasting freezing rain is extremely difficult because it depends on a very precise temperature setup. If the models are off by just a degree or two, we could be looking at more ice pellets or even just rain instead.

Let’s hope they’re wrong. We want nothing more than for this to bust and for our forecast to completely miss the mark.

Another necklace to add to my cold porcelain medallion series. These moulded, hand painted pendants are also replicas of bohemian glass buttons from the 1920s and ‘ 30s , in the rich colours of teal and magenta. The continuous strand of gold toned chain maille is a vintage find , light enough to wear even in warm weather....and looks very pretty on a breezy dress or blouse.

Vintage Romantic is still popular this year. Lace , antique border trim and muted pastel colours all look back with nostalgia to a past gentler time. This cake would fit perfectly in a Shabby Chic setting which also longs for the look of the past.

This small cake is contemporary in look, but is still softly romantic in feel. Deep navy was the colour of choice for the decoration of the hall , and although they look black in the photographs, the berries in the bouquets are a deep velvety blue to match . Pink roses seem to be the flower of choice for 2017... I have made dozens of them!

This is such a pretty little cake! The design of the love birds on the tree branch is taken from the couple's wedding invitations. The teal blue of the eucalyptus leaves mirrors that of the blue birds, and the silver of the leaves on the branches is picked up by the wire swirls and the silver dragees on the bottom cake. It is romantic with a touch of fun!

This is one of two large three tier wedding cakes I had to make for this weekend. The cascade of bouquets is the focal point, but the applique moulded borders give it a classical look, all highlighted with pearl dust to accentuate the relief pattern. It is a very romantic , traditional wedding cake.

This week I had two very different wedding cakes booked. They are both large three tiers, 12", 9", and 6". This black, white and gold cake is very dramatic, reminiscent of the Art Deco style. The only decoration is an open white and gold magnolia.

" Bling" is the word that springs to mind when looking at this cake! The mother and sister of the bride chose this design as a surprise for the bride. They said she loved sparkle , and sparkle she was going to have! Even grandmother's chandelier was dismantled to provide the dangling crystals! When set in place at the Hall it looked lovely and just right .

This small cake has a big impact. The layers of fondant ruffles have movement, reminding one of a billowy white wedding dress floating and rustling as the bride walks. Small posies of flowers are placed strategically here and there without marring the lightness of effect , and the larger bouquet on the top adds interest and height.

This cake is a romantic rhapsody in blue! It is a simple design with texture provided by a play of different dot patterns on the tiers. The bride wanted only blue hydrangeas as floral decoration, but I included some small green berries to continue the dot theme and for added interest and colour.
