What an incredible and inspiring turnout last night at Helen’s Acres Community Farm for our Okanagan Chefs Association meeting!
There was meaningful discussion about how we, as chefs and as a community, can support those affected by the devastating wildfires in Summerland and the Okanagan Indian Band community near Vernon. Our thoughts remain with everyone who lost a home, was displaced or is now facing the difficult process of rebuilding.
The food was absolutely incredible—prepared by the board members of the Okanagan Chefs Association using beautiful ingredients grown right at Helen’s Acres. Sadly, I didn’t manage to photograph every dish, but every bite showcased the quality of the farm’s produce and the talent and generosity of the chefs who prepared it.
Helen’s Acres is a remarkable nonprofit community farm that grows and distributes fresh, nutritious food to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity throughout the Okanagan. It was the perfect setting for an evening centred around food, compassion and community.
A sincere thank-you to Helen’s Acres, the Okanagan Chefs Association board members, the Kelowna Gospel Mission and everyone who attended and contributed to such an important conversation. We are also incredibly grateful to GFS for sponsoring the evening and helping make it possible.
When our community comes together, we can make a meaningful difference.
