When I was a little girl, my dad gave my grandpa the surprise of a lifetime for his 60th birthday, his dream car, a ’59 Chevy Impala. I’ll never forget it, even as little as I was. The moment he saw it, Grandpa scooped me up and covered his face in my little shoulder because he was crying so hard. That car meant everything to him.
Years later when Grandpa got sick, he always promised me he would still be at my wedding one day. There were times he didn’t want to go through treatments anymore and he just wanted to give up. I would walk into that hospital room and tell him he had to keep going because I needed him there with me when that special day came. Somehow, I was the only one who could convince him to continue his treatments.
When Grandpa eventually passed, he left that beautiful Impala to my dad and this past winter he poured his heart and soul into it. He spent months in Arizona carefully refurbishing the car inside and out, painting it a stunning diamond white with white wall tires, all so it would be ready for my wedding day.
When I see that car now, it’s not just metal and paint. It’s love, legacy, and a promise fulfilled. Thank you, Poppy, for carrying out “Mr. Demo’s” dream to be by my side on my wedding day. I will hold this gift in my heart forever and ever.
A special thank you to Nadia of and her husband Sean for directing traffic at Kekuli Bay during one of the busiest boating days of the summer (oops).
And lastly, thank you to Abby of for making me a bouquet with one hours notice. I love you.
