A little Sunday story for ya!
I came across a quote the other day that said:
“Your wedding day flies by—focus on each other, not the guests or the little details. If something goes wrong, laugh it off. Those moments make the best memories.”
And honestly? It couldn’t be more true.
If you’ve been married, you know not everything goes perfectly. But it’s how you respond that shapes the day—and the memories you carry forward.
It got me reflecting on our own wedding, and one moment that still makes me laugh:
The day before our wedding, my husband and I carefully dug up an oak sapling from our property to use in our ceremony—a symbol of our relationship that we would later plant at our new home 🌱. Our officiant had included a tree planting ritual in her ceremony package, and I loved the meaning behind it. We chose an oak for its strength and resilience—something that represented our 10-year journey together.
But… in true wedding fashion, something went sideways.
During the drive to our venue, we completely forgot it was in the bed of the truck. When we arrived—nothing. Just dirt.
So, in a total scramble, we found another sapling. Not an oak… but a poplar. We didn’t tell the officiant—we just went with it.
The best part? Guests who knew their trees were definitely side-eyeing the ceremony as our officiant kept calling it an oak.
Now? That “oops” moment inspired the name of my business. White Oak Weddings was born out of a wedding day mishap. Funny how things work out.
So next time something doesn’t go according to plan, take a breath and laugh it off—it might just become your favourite story one day.
What’s something that went wrong on your wedding day that you now look back on and laugh? Drop it in the comments—I’d love to hear! 👇🏼
