Weddings aren't the only thing I'm passionate about - I also love horses, particularly this big, freckled Appaloosa called Traveller who's been by my side for 20 years now (wow!). Here at Small But Perfect, we know of several locations that are not only pet friendly but also horse friendly and naturally, those are our favourites.

Both a wedding and elopement get the important bits down: at the end of your ceremony, you will be legally married and starting on the happily ever after part of your lives together.

So how do you want to get that done? In essence, elopements are a scaled down version of a full wedding. There are fewer - if any - guests and no aisle to walk down. Some couples like to get married in a public park or wild space, and some choose to hold their ceremony their home. For the most part, there isn't much decor (though our Comfy Elopement has a little more going on) and the vibe is nicely laid-back. A lot of couples book a restaurant for a follow-up celebration over food and drinks.

Weddings, even the micro weddings we love here at SBP, have a bit more production value. They can be equally relaxed but often have more guests, maybe an arch, an aisle to walk down and as much decor as you and your budget desire. There might also be a reception with food, drink and dancing.

Your wedding might be the most expensive party you'll ever throw but it doesn't have to break the bank - the only thing that needs to break is news to friends and family that there isn't room for everyone around the table.

And that's ok. In fact, it's better than ok - it's wise, it's sensible and, best of all, it puts the focus on the two of you, which is what matters most.

Once you've decided to go small, it's not hard to set limits. You can approach it from a budget point of view - we're spending this much money, and that's all. Or rent a small venue, one that fits only the number of people you've budgeted for. Of course, you can always skip the reception since that's where costs can really pile up.

Just remember - no one is owed an invitation to your wedding. Except the two of you, your marriage commissioner, and two witnesses (our professional photographer and hostess act as witnesses if you're doing this on your own with our help - and we love that).
