Thank you to everyone that donated to the mural campaign!! ❤️❤️

A beautiful piece of Hastings history is now complete—and we have so many amazing members of the community to thank for supporting this!

Local artist Thalya Fortin spent ten months and more than 70 hours painting Stories on the Wall, the incredible new mural at the Trent Hills Public Library’s Hastings Branch. That doesn’t include the many additional hours she spent researching, interviewing people in our community, attending Historical Society meetings and listening to stories about growing up in Hastings.

When the grant funding for the mural fell through, Thalya continued working in her spare time, between raising her family and everything else life brings, fully expecting to complete this enormous project without being paid.

When the Hastings Revitalization Association learned about this, we knew we couldn’t let all of that work go unrecognized. We reached out to the community—and, as Hastings so often does, you came through! Together, you donated more than $700 to provide Thalya with an honorarium and show her how much her time, talent and dedication are appreciated.

Today, at the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly refurbished Hastings Branch, Kim, our Secretary had the honour of presenting Thalya with the money raised on behalf of the HRA and everyone who contributed. She was genuinely touched and incredibly grateful to every person who donated.

Thank you, Thalya, for creating something so beautiful for our community—and thank you to everyone who helped us show her how much it means to Hastings.

Please stop by the library and see Stories on the Wall for yourself. The mural is located on the bottom floor of the Hastings Branch, by the entrance to the Hastings Civic Auditorium.

And be sure to take a closer look at the fish—it glows in the dark! 🐟✨

Day of Caring is coming to Trent Hills!!

They are currently seeking nonprofit organizations, community groups, charities, and other eligible community organizations that could benefit from this support. Examples of projects may include:
Painting and beautification projects
Minor repairs and maintenance
Landscaping and outdoor clean-up
Accessibility improvements
Storage and organizational projects
Community space enhancements
Other volunteer-driven projects that support your organization's mission
If your organization has a project that would benefit from volunteer support, submit an application for their consideration.

Something exciting is coming to Trent Hills!

United Way Northumberland is proud to launch the Trent Hills Day of Caring, taking place on Friday, October 23, 2026.

Day of Caring brings together volunteers, businesses, community organizations, and local residents for one shared purpose: strengthening our community through hands-on action.

The day begins with volunteers coming together to connect and prepare for a day of service before heading out across Hastings, Campbellford, and Warkworth to complete meaningful community projects. From helping food banks stock shelves, to painting a local community space, each effort creates lasting impact close to home.

Now, we're looking for local charities, non-profits, community groups, and other organizations with projects that could benefit from volunteer support. If there's a project you've been hoping to complete but need helping hands to make it happen, we'd love to hear from you.

Learn more and apply today: https://mynuw.org/day-of-caring/

Applications close October 9.
