It’s time to face facts. The west will never prosper while it’s governed by the east. That is, the west will never flourish while it’s ruled by Ottawa, and if we can’t see that now, we never will.
For decades, we’ve done everything in our power to make this relationship work. We’ve fed the furious fires of Ottawa’s spending. We’ve announced our desire to fuel Canada’s energy needs. We’ve paid countless billions in equalization, and we’ve carried the country’s economic output.
But as we watched the liberal leadership debate last night, we were once again reminded why, no matter how hard we try, this relationship is doomed to fail. It’s not like the west works for Ottawa, Ottawa works for the west, and we all work for each other. Rather, the west works for Ottawa, and Ottawa selfishly works for itself.
If that wasn’t bad enough, our task is made so much harder by the heavy restrictions placed on us by the Federal gov’t. They just cancelled another refinery for Kitimat. They refuse to budge on their carbon tax. Inflation is still increasing, and demagogues continue to demonize our oil and gas.
All the while, Ottawa keeps demanding more of our wealth. They eliminate our ability to make money, all while forcing us to hand them more money. They frighten off investment, yet they expect of us income and enterprise.
Madmen are at the country’s helm, and right now, we’re faced with a choice. Either we can stay where we are and helplessly watch as they sink the ship, or we can build our own boat, and start driving the vessel ourselves.
It’s time for independence.
