Day two of the 8th International SRV Conference included thought-provoking Keynote Presentations from Milt Tyree and Marc Tumienski; inspiring concurrent sessions, interesting discussions and wonderful conversations. This was all topped off with delicious banquet and then entertainment from SheNova! On to day three!

Today marked the beginning of the 8th International Social Role Valorization (SRV) Conference at the Halifax Convention Centre.

Over 150 participants gathered to explore the theme: The Good Things in Life at Home, School, Work, and Beyond.

Our first keynote address included Maria Medioli and Bill Forman who discussed “Building Supports for a Valued Place in Community Life”.

We explored a number of concurrent sessions and celebrated an afternoon coffee break in memory of Beth French.

We ended the evening with an ISRVA hosted reception that included a wall of savoury and sweet spoons!

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to explore SRV over the next two days.

We are pleased to announce that Marc Tumeinski is one of three keynote speakers at this year's international Social Role Valorization Conference. Marc Tumeinski, PhD, is a trainer with the SRV Implementation Project, and has a particular interest in PASSING as an SRV training and teaching tool. He's travelled the globe as a plenary speaker and to facilitate workshops on a variety of topics related to Dr.Wolfensberger's work.

We are pleased to announce that Milton Tyree is the second of three keynote speakers at this year's international Social Role Valorization Conference. Milton Tyree’s work is centered on people with disabilities having access to full participation with a particular interest in employment. Milton is a retired Project Director of the University of Kentucky’s Human Development Institute where his focus was on supported/open employment leadership development in Kentucky. Milton will support his audience to unpack the valued role of "employee" in this year's presentation.

We haven't posted in awhile cause we've just been so busy getting ready for the 8th International SRV Conference! Just 2 weeks away and the count down begins!

We are pleased to announce that Maria Medioli is one of three keynote speakers at this year's international Social Role Valorization Conference. Maria is a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and Chartered Professional Account (CPA) with 25+ years of strategic problem-solving experience in the public, not for profit and private sector. Maria is committed to social change realized through a participative, consensus building approach, influencing rather than imposing change. Her keynote will describe what the province of Nova Scotia is doing to remedy the finding of systemic discrimination against persons with disabilities and the steps being taken to increase capacity to provide community-based support and services.
Maria's presentation will be coupled with commentary from Bill Forman, who will provide context for Maria’s keynote and “The Remedy” from a Social Role Valorization perspective.

It gives professionals, people with a disability, and their families the opportunity to hear how others are using SRV and the impact it has had.

During sessions, you will collect stories, information and tools for using SRV. The goal of the event is to share knowledge and experiences. With this in mind, we hope to inspire and build energy around the ways we can help people to enjoy the good things in life.
