The United Church of Canada's full-communion partners, the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), along with our ecumenical siblings the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada are all holding their national meetings this weekend:
The United Church of Christ is holding their General Synod in Kansas City, MO. 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of our full-communion agreement and Rev. Jennifer Henry, Executive Minister Organizational Development and Strategy, is attending the Synod as the representative of The United Church of Canada.
The General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is being held this weekend in Memphis, TN. Rev. Dr. Japhet Ndhlovu, Executive Minister Church in Mission, is representing The United Church of Canada. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) became a full-communion partner of The United Church of Canada in 2019.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada is also holding their National Convention this weekend in Winnipeg, MB and will be electing a new national bishop.
Please remember these important gatherings of our ecumenical partners and siblings in your prayers.
Uniting God,
you call us into your church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship:
to celebrate your presence,
to live with respect in Creation,
to be your servants in the service of others,
to seek justice and resist evil,
to share in Christ’s baptism and eat at his table,
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
our judge and our hope.
Send your Holy Spirit to bind us in full communion
so that we may be a uniting church
embodying your love for the world.
As one, we proclaim:
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
you are with us,
we are not alone,
all glory and power be unto you.
Amen.
This prayer is inspired by John 17:21 and based on The United Church of Canada’s “A New Creed” and the United Church of Christ’s “Statement of Faith (in the Form of a Doxology)” and was offered in celebration of the full communion of these two denominations in 2015.
