Even though I almost exclusively cosplay as Marvel characters, only a couple are directly attributable to Stan Lee: Hawkeye and Daredevil.

Whether you're a casual MCU fan or hard core comics reader, we all owe Stan Lee an unpayable debt for several decades of unforgettable characters and stories. I love my Defenders and Avengers, but it was the X-Men that roped me into Marvel for life.

An important story telling lesson from Stan that really stuck out to me (im paraphrasing):

"A guy in a colourful suit jumps off a roof and does stuff. Who cares. I need to know who is under that mask. Who is this guy when he's waking up in the morning? That's what matters." He fully understood character developement and motivation mattered more than a flashy costume and crazy powers. It's very clear to me that this lesson was properly passed on to the creative forces behind the MCU.
"I need the audience to care about skinny Steve first" - Joe Johnston -CA:TFA director.
"Rocket is the heart and Groot is the soul of this. If I cant get these characters to work I don't have a movie" - James Gunn director of GotG.

It provides me some consolation that Stan's push to get Marvel into the mainstream was successful beyond anyone's expectations and that he was alive to see it. I'm sure I won't be the only one tearing up at the next Marvel premiere and we start seeing his last few cameos.
