Girl Talk – Night Ripper

Kicking off Groovy Digs with one that’s been a favorite since high school. Night Ripper was my introduction to mash-up magic - pure chaos and pure perfection all at once. Over 300 samples blended into one non-stop, high-energy ride through pop, hip hop, soft rock, R&B, grunge, and everything in between. 🎛️🎤🎸

Originally released in 2006, Night Ripper earned Pitchfork’s Best New Music and had people calling Girl Talk “the next Danger Mouse.” I was lucky enough to catch him live at Grove Fest in Toronto—and let me tell you, it was wild live.

Hi, I’m Meagen! 👋

DJ, vinyl collector, concert enthusiast, and lover of all things groovy.

My music journey started early—my first record was Wolf Parade – At Mount Zoomer, and I’ve been collecting ever since. These days, my shelves are packed (and slightly overflowing) with everything from soul and disco to indie rock and dance-floor staples. I might need to expand soon—but that’s a good problem, right?

Some of my favourite live shows? Fred Again.., Sampha, July Talk, and Arkells—nothing beats the energy of a great concert.

When I’m not digging through crates or curating sets, you’ll find me in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes. My go-to crowd-pleasers? Buffalo chicken dip and a solid southwest chicken salad. I also love to read and am carving out more time to get lost in good books (recommendations always welcome 📚).

I’m also a proud dog mom to Cooper, my two-year-old Aussie Doodle, and a real-life mom to the coolest tween around.
