DID YOU KNOW that Segwun was originally named "Nipissing"?
By the summer of 1914, Nipissing had been in service for 31 seasons, which was roughly the average lifetime for many of the ships. Following mechanical issues, Nipissing sat dormant at the Gravenhurst dockyards until she was refurbished and, on July 9, 1925, she would return to the lakes, metamorphosed into a new two-propeller ship named Segwun.

Wenonah II sailing from Lake Muskoka, through the Port Carling Lock and onto Lake Rosseau!
The Port Carling lift bridge, which spans the Indian River, has a history marked by multiple replacements and advancements. Initially, a swing bridge was built in 1872 to facilitate both water and land traffic at the intersection of the river and road. This swing bridge was eventually replaced with a lift bridge, a process that began in 1973-75. The lift bridge design allows for both road traffic and the passage of steamers through the lock system.
