Looking for your thoughts in my Instagram story poll. I have been toying lately with the idea of moving my farmstand to a location on Southwood road, which is much busier in terms of traffic, but much less personal and private.

I worry that this may result in theft, but I also believe most humans are decent humans.

Stock is starting and lupins are inching towards harvest time. This is a quieter week in the flower farming world, as I have a bit of a gap between blooms at the moment.

The stand will be open this weekend, Friday and Saturday from 9am - 6pm.

You'll find the first of our stock and ranunculus, as well as anemones and some early irises. Fingers crossed for warmer temps on the horizon and less rain 🌧️

Tulip season is done! This year I had 23 people join me for three weeks of fresh tulip bouquets and many more who purchased at Scoopz or the farmstand each week.

Thank you for supporting me this spring!!

Some flower things I learned about tulips in my second season:

🌷while I love the red ones, they are hard to mix with other flowers and not many people bought them... They are on the chopping block for next years' order

🌷People want darker colours —bold, dramatic, bright. Adding some more pop to my order list next spring

🌷Moles like tulip bulbs. Now I already knew this, but even though I caged my bulbs in chicken wire, they managed to get in and have a winter buffet. Not sure how to fix this yet, but I think I may install owl boxes around the flower field and maybe find a new barn cat

'Antique Rose' Stock from Johnny's Seeds.

While I am significantly (underline and bold, please) struggling to grow things in my new flower beds, these beauties grew in my old veggie beds with gusto.

OH MY GOSH I wish you could smell them. Cinnamon mixed with nutmeg, with a hint of something spicy I just can't identify. I can't stop inhaling them!

If you'd like a sniff too, head over to Scoopz in Washago. I have a small drop of flowers heading there today and these cuties will be part of the mix.

How do we feel about marigolds?

I am sitting on the fence with these. I don't love the smell. The blooms are ok I guess. Yellow and orange are not my favourite colours for a flower bouquets. But they are blooming (yay!) and the stem length is longer than I expected.

Do you agree?

Some thank you bouquets headed out early tomorrow am. Featuring roses, peonies, sweet peas and yarrow!

While roses have a shorter vase life than other cut flowers, and are therefore typically reserved for wedding use only, these ones have several partially opened buds right underneath the main bloom so they will put on a show for several days at least.
