🧙‍♂️ Our History 🧙‍♂️

🤝Helping Hands was founded in 2013 in response to a growing need for healthy, hearty food options for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. From the beginning, our mission has been rooted in compassion, dignity, and access to nutritious food. 🤝

In 2023, Helping Hands partnered with Northreach Society to address a pressing challenge — the need for a dedicated space to collect, store, and prepare food hampers. This partnership allowed us to better serve our community by expanding our reach and efficiency.

🫛By 2024, this collaboration had grown even stronger. Helping Hands and Northreach Society officially amalgamated, uniting under one vision to fight food insecurity more effectively. In December 2024, Helping Hands was named the backbone agency to lead the Food Security Leadership Table in our region. This role positions us to not only continue operating and growing our food pantry, but also to take a leading role in shaping sustainable, community-driven solutions to food insecurity.

🛒In May 2024, we proudly reopened the pantry with a new and empowering "Shopping Model" — allowing guests to choose their own items and restore dignity in the process of accessing food support.🛒

Together, we’re building a stronger, more food-secure community — one meal, one choice, one neighbor at a time.

We’re excited to host the 12th annual County Open Houses and the first one is Monday, June 17 at Valhalla Community School. The Open Houses are from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. We'll be at Lyons Events Centre in Teepee Creek on Wednesday, June 19, followed by Five Mile Hall on Thursday, June 20. Come talk to County Councillors and staff from each department, bring the kids and enjoy a bouncy castle and a free barbecue meal.
