Have you been to the market yet this season? It creates such a buzz in our household on Saturday mornings. We wake up to sounds of exciting proclamations “Pretzels! Chocolate Buns!” I groggily whisper back “Coffee!” We’re blessed with all of the amazing producers and purveyors who come out, set up, and serve us the best of the best. Thank you!!

My body and mind are still gripping for dreamland on these walks. Half asleep, I stumble over root and rock; squinting at the sun to give my brain the cue that it’s time to wake.
Five minutes in and I see it’s got the hint- I’m awake. The birds have been singing to me this entire time and only now am I beginning to hear their tunes. I wonder what they’re saying? I can assure you it’s far from the mental loop our human brains cling to.
The cobwebs stick to my face and hands and that’s how I know I’m the first one on the trail this morning. As I cross the tiny foot bridge, a memory from 2010 meanders in— Spencer telling me in that very spot that he wanted to marry me. And how our lives have unfolded in a way I could never have imagined since.
Just the year before, I had a year from hell. 2009 marked the sudden death of my stepdad, writing my final university exams after hearing the news, moving from the only place I’d lived, Streetsville, to Fergus to be with my mom. I left my friends, my job, and life as I knew it. But had it not unraveled as so, I would have never met Spencer, and the past 16 years would have looked like someone else’s life. So crazy how that happens.
Today a heavy fog hugs the surface of the slow moving Maitland- and I feel calm. This walk never gets old. Thanks for listening.

If this door could talk, it would have a lot of stories from the past 10 years.
It has welcomed people from all over, through every kind of season, moment, and emotion. It has opened during big life events, hard days, ordinary mornings, a global health crisis, construction, change, and everything in between.
Every time the bell rings, it reminds us that someone has chosen to walk in and let us be a small part of their day.
Thank you for opening this door again and again, and for letting us serve you through so many different seasons of life.

Rhubarb Danish season has officially returned. 🌿

For the first time since last spring, our buttery, flaky rhubarb danishes are back for a limited time only.

You’ve watched us harvest the rhubarb, chop it by hand, and slowly turn it into one of our favourite seasonal fillings… and now they’re finally ready to hit your plates.

Tangy rhubarb tucked into layers of pastry with just the right amount of sweetness. The kind of thing that tastes like May in Ontario.

We also just want to say thank you. This long weekend was a beautiful reminder of how lucky we are to be part of this community. Thank you for showing up, ordering online, sharing posts, waiting patiently through busy moments, and supporting our little café in so many ways.
