Mike Erb is the recipient of the 2026 Charlotte Glencross Scholarship for Professional Development in the Arts. Mike currently has a photo included in an exhibition at Toronto's Union Station. The exhibition, Points of Departure, is a photojournalism exhibit in partnership with the Globe and Mail Foundation.
This exhibition brings together the work of 16 photojournalists from across Canada, selected to participate in the Globe Foundation’s free Photo Academy, led by Chris Donovan. Created to help democratize access to the field, the program provides emerging and developing storytellers with an opportunity to deepen their practice, pursue an independent body of work, and grow as visual journalists.
The photographs presented in Points of Departure are the result of that journey. Each represents more than a captured moment. Behind every image is a photographer who chose to look more closely, to listen, to build trust, and to tell a story with care.
In an era of artificial intelligence, manipulated imagery, social media and an overwhelming volume of visual information, authentic photojournalism asks something different of us. It asks us to consider who made an image, whose story is being told, what we can trust, and why bearing witness still matters.
