IMBOLC is an ancient festival (February 2nd) to CELEBRATE THE SEED and Nature as they considered it to be unconditionally sacred, an expression or manifestation of deity and divinity. Druids do not worship nature; they give reverence to deity that is expressed within nature. It is the time of Blessing of the seeds and consecration of agricultural tools. It is the festival of the Maiden, for from this day to March 21st, it is her season to prepare for growth and renewal. Brighid’s snake emerges from the womb of the Earth Mother to test the weather, (the origin of Ground Hog Day), and in many places the first Crocus flowers began to spring forth from the frozen earth. Another traditional symbol of Imbolc is the plough. Pieces of cheese and bread are left by the plough and in the newly turned furrows as offerings to the nature spirits. It is considered taboo to cut or pic plants during this time. We can attempt to try to understand this power, this energy that we feel and see all around us, or we can simply accept that it is beyond our full comprehension whilst acknowledging its power over our lives, that it is deity, that it is sacred. To a Druid, the term ‘supernatural’ has no meaning; nothing can be above Nature. Another view would be that the universe had no beginning, it is a continuing, ever changing wonder that we can’t hope to fully comprehend. Within our society it has become normal to think of nature as something linked to the countryside, or that which might be observed outside of ourselves other than that which is beyond the physical. Perhaps we can learn from their knowledge. Food for thought

A slow and difficult start to local flower season this year. You haven't been hearing much from me lately.

The cold, wet weather has really set things back, and my tulips were a total disaster — I lost the whole crop.

This is another year of lots of outdoor space renos, too, so the feeling of being behind is already upon me.
On top of that, I’ve been down with a terrible cold for nearly two weeks, so all in all, it’s been a tough spring over here.
As a one-woman operation, that can be especially challenging.

Still, beautiful blooms are enough to brighten even the bleakest days.
The forecast finally looks like it might be turning a corner next week, and I’m holding onto hope for warmer days, stronger blooms, and better things ahead.
Lots of bed preparation and planting cold tolerant plants like lisianthus.

If you’d like to bring some of that beauty home, floral subscriptions are available — enjoy beautiful, unique, organically grown bouquets for 5 or 10 weeks while supporting your local flower farm.
Seeds of Imbolc offers 5-week and 10-week subscription options.
Thanks for being here and supporting local flowers through all the ups and downs.
Better days are on the horizon!

I'm sad to share that I won't be able to take any more orders for Mother's Day.

I have enough flowers to fill the orders already received, my tulip crop failed from this cold, wet spring. 😪
Its a huge loss.
Ive been working since January to have ranunculus blooming for Mother's Day but missed it by about a week. 🤨
As you probably know, I only use my own blooms, not imports.

Thank you for understanding, and for your support through these tough seasons.
Hoping for better weather and beautiful blooms soon.

I’ve been buried in the tuber storage area for weeks, and I’ve been eyeing up tubers for months—checking each one for eyes.

The good news is: all orders are packed and ready to go.
An incredible (truly unbelievable) amount of hours & hours goes into getting dahlias out to you (it’s a bit like giving birth… immediately after you say “never again” 😅)
Thanks for your patience while this relentless winter gives me a safe shipping window.

Shipping update: The only packages going out Wednesday will be heading south (Toronto + Essex).
Everything else (for Ontario) will need to wait until Monday, by the looks of the forecast.
It’s snowing yet again here, and it’s going to be very cold tonight.
All the plants are back inside from the greenhouse—hopefully they can go back out on Thursday.
Question for you: What variety are you most looking forward to receiving this year?
