Bull sale photography (or any livestock photography) is never just about stepping in with a camera... it takes a full crew working together to make it happen. Ideally, there are 3 people in the picture pen, a couple of others behind the scenes getting them cleaned up and ready, and someone else checking cows, feeding, and keeping chores moving so everything runs smoothly. It’s a coordinated effort from start to finish.

The picture pen itself is only a small piece of the process, but it’s a critical one. The way cattle are presented in those photos can truly shape how a program is viewed heading into a sale. Good photography doesn’t just “show” the cattle... it represents the work behind them, and can absolutely influence how a sale is perceived.

That’s why having reliable, capable help in the picture pen is so important. It keeps things efficient, consistent, and allows the focus to stay on capturing cattle at their best.

It’s a short window in the season, but one that carries a lot of weight in the overall success of a sale.

2026 catalogue design for Parsons Cattle Company

Repeat clients are something I truly value, and it was a pleasure working with their program again this year. From layout to final design, the goal was to create a clean, organized catalogue that showcases their bulls and supports their bull sale marketing effectively.

I appreciate the continued trust!

I had the opportunity to design this advertisement for an Angus breeder in British Columbia early this year.

I work with producers to create advertising that fits their program and supports their marketing in a clear and effective way, from initial layout through to final design. The goal is always to present their cattle and their program in a way that is organized, visually strong, and easy for buyers to connect with.

Each project is built to reflect the individual operation it represents, while still keeping a consistent and professional look across all marketing pieces.

Now that things have finally settled down after a very busy stretch, I wanted to bring a bit of life back to this page and reintroduce myself here again.

November through March is always the busiest season for K-Cow Design. Between fall shows with my family, Christmas, calving season starting in January, and bull sale season, it’s a constant mix of livestock work, travel, photography, and design deadlines all happening at once.

Most of what gets created during that time happens behind the scenes... catalogues being built, sale photography, and marketing projects coming together in between everything else. Because of that, social media is usually what gets set aside first.

Now that we’re into April, things shift into a different pace again, and I’ll be sharing more of the projects that came out of that busy season.

Welcome back to K-Cow Design, and if you’re planning ahead for summer, fall or even winter/spring 2027 sales, catalogues, logos, photography, or marketing this year, I’m always taking on new projects and would love to connect.

For now, it felt right to come back with a face to the name again.

I appreciate everyone who continues to trust K-Cow Design during the busiest part of the year. It doesn’t go unnoticed, even when things are quiet here.

October 16 was the last post before things went quiet here, and I know that can look like things slowed down... but in reality, this is when everything speeds up.

For K-Cow Design, November through March is the busiest stretch of my entire year. It’s the season where everything converges at once. Fall show season with my family keeps us on the road and in the barn, Christmas comes in fast and full, and then our calving season begins in January, right as bull sale prep hits its peak.

This is the time of year where the work behind the scenes really takes over. Catalogues need to be built, photos need to be captured in between weather windows and chores, pedigrees and data need to be organized, and marketing pieces need to come together for bull sales and production sales that are months in the making.

It’s a stretch of long days, and a lot of juggling between cattle work and design work... but it’s also the part of the year that defines what I do. Every catalogue, every sale page, every photo, and every design piece is built right in the middle of this chaos, and that’s exactly how it has always been.

Because of that, social media often becomes the first thing to slow down. Not because the work isn’t happening, but because it’s happening everywhere else.

I’m still here, still designing, still photographing, still working with programs and producers, just more often behind the scenes than behind a screen posting on social media.

Once things settle back into a more steady rhythm very shortly, I’ll be back to sharing more of what’s going on day to day. Until then, I appreciate every client, every project, and every bit of support more than I can say.

Busy doesn’t even begin to describe it, but I wouldn’t trade this season for anything.

Last week I had the chance to be down in Casper, Wyoming to picture some incredible show steers... and wow, what a fantastic opportunity it was! These steers were a blast to photograph and even better to see in person.

If you’re in the market for a show steer, I’d highly recommend getting in touch with Jonah Wing 307-797-9420. He has an outstanding set!

📸 Back behind the lens!
It’s been a minute since our last update, but I've been busy capturing some pretty cool cattle this fall. To start the fall sale run, I was out photographing some heifers for Brooke Family Farm & McGowan Farms!
If you're in the market for any Black or Red Angus heifer calves, I'd check these few out that will be selling in a couple of sales this fall.

If their pictures caught your interest, contact Phil @ 780-385-0833 or Randy @ 780-385-4418 for more details about the sales.

✨ That’s a Wrap on the Summer Breakaway Series! ✨

What an awesome summer of fast runs, fierce competition, and some pretty special moments in the arena. I’m grateful I had the chance to capture it all behind the lens — every nod, every rope, and every win.
