***GET TO KNOW SAMMI***

Sammi’s career spans almost 20 years with experience (over 10 years in the Lash industry) in a salon setting, team member on runway teams for Liza Smith and Marian Newman, doing trade show demos, Brand Ambassador and Educator, competition judge, leading designer concepts for photo shoots, published in several industry and fashion magazines giving tutorials and business advice and is a regular on the competition circuit on a global scale. She also placed in the top 18 of NAILS Magazines 2015 competition, Next Top Nail Artist and reached Top 8 in 2018’s season. She now owns a salon in Dawson Creek which is the home of her Independent Training Academy.

In 2012, Sammi won herself a place on the Liza Smith Runway Team. She tended the nails of some of the worlds most famous super models, as an assistant, at shows including Aminaka Wilmont, Julian McDonald, The London Fashion Council and Tom Ford, it was here that she developed a passion for Runway nails. In September 2013, Sammi and her family relocated to Western Canada. She found the nail scene very different from what she was used to and instantly began to brainstorm ways to bring the Canadian Nail Community together. Sammi has completed work for OPI, Christian Louboutain, Splaq Apparel, Trippy Hippy, Gareth Pugh and Minx Nails with her design, featuring her cat (Reggie The Sphynx) being chosen from over 200 entries to be produced and sold globally. She has judged competitions which has given her the opportunity to give back to the Industry. She assisted Marian Newman for 2 seasons and worked on shows such as Antonio Berardi, Mary Katranzhou, Simone Rocha, Peter Pilotto Versus Vasace with sponsors including MAC Cosmetics and L'Oreal. Now she is bringing her experience, enthusiasm and network to Canada. She recognizes that there is a wealth of unseen talent in Canada and she wants to build and uplift her peers and, by extension, the industry as a whole.

She believes in uplifting her peers and enjoys being instrumental in helping students to craft long, knowledgable careers in their chosen fields. Pairing experience and eagerness to share with quality brands that have been vigorously tested and used by Sammi herself to make sure students have the best possible learning experience within the Industry.

***IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT***

We have some disappointing news. Hazel will not be coming to Calgary at the end of the month, this is a message from her:

"I am unfortunately not going to make it over for the classes due to some extremely upsetting news about my mums medical condition which has become serious. I am so so sorry to have to cancel but I have to be here for my family . I really hope you all understand as I was excited to meet you all and I would still love to come and show you all my amazing techniques one day soon. Love to you all x Hazel”

So, what is there to do at Nail Nation?

Friday April 27th 2018

10am - 4pm Photographic Techniques
Sammi will be running a Photographic workshop in place of Hazels Shadow Flowers class. It will cover how to take great pictures of your work including getting the perfect lighting, info on specialist equipment (whats worth it and whats not), to watermark or not and the reasons for each and editing tips and tricks. Also covered will be how to create a Cover shot which could be used in a photographic competition too. This class comes with a LightBox and some other super useful tools for taking great pictures.

9am - 2pm - Embellish Art with Tanya
In this class we will be creating designs using Mosaic's Embellish 3D art gel and go in depth in color theory so we can mix colors to create new colours! All designs are quick and easy and salon friendly! The best part is, you have unlimited playtime as gel will not cure like acrylics do giving you the ultimate freedom to play to make your design perfect :)
SPECIAL GUEST COMING TO CALGARY!!! Teaming up with me as a special gift to you, Brenda O'Toole of Finished Touch Gel Nails will be joining our class to teach you the art of swirls and fine detail. I am pleased to introduce her to you all as she is our newest Mosaic Educator.

Saturday April 28th

10am - 4pm Creating Boxed Mixed Media Entries
Sammi will be holding this class and we will focus on creating master pieces worthy of NAILS Next Top Nail Artist. We will cover how to interpret the rules of such competitions, how to sketch out your thoughts, make a mood board and how to bring them together to make a winning piece. We will be making one nail from a brief that will be given in class which you will be able to take home with you. Class includes some super finely milled acrylic powders which can be used with Acrylic monomer OR builder gel and a precision art brush

9am - 2pm Advanced Shapes Russian Almond and Stiletto with Tanya
Come and Join Tanya Puttick of Eyes On You Nail Artistry and Brenda O'Toole of Finished Touch Gel Nails to amp up your shaping skills in European techniques of advanced shapes. You will learn how to sculpt in reverse application for Stiletto and Russian Almond. We will go over proper nail prep, form placement, product application and filing techniques so that your nails will look flawless and consistent.
No model required for this class, we suggest that you work on yourself so please have one hand free of product. We will demo working with Mosaic gel products but you are welcome to use your product of choice. If requested we will demo in both acrylic and polygel.

2pm - 6pm 4D Nail Art Workshop with Mariana Sandu

Egoista Professional presents this class!
Course is for beginners in nail art and more experienced nail artists.

3pm - 8pm Introduction to Competition 3D with Tanya
This class will teach you the skills to get you started on how to start a 3D competition piece. Learn how to start the thought process of planning a 3D piece, what you need to get started and how to execute your master sculpting skills into a potentially winning piece of your very own! You will also learn what not to do, what judges look for on the score cards and how to successfully mount your masterpiece so you won't risk any damage while traveling or when your piece gets handed around from Judge to Judge. I will show you the techniques used to make one of 3 of my 1st place winning pieces themed "Coffee Time". We will be sculpting with various mediums to make the flowers, vase, chocolate eclair, coffee cup, saucer and spoon. With time permitting we will move on to other miniature items.
