Let’s be real: Amazon Prime is fast. But it’s not planning your wedding.

This needs to be said:
You’re not just paying for “a thing.”

You’re paying for the kind of vendor who:
✔️ Shows up early
✔️ Knows what to do when things go sideways
✔️ Doesn’t need to be babysat
✔️ Carries themselves with professionalism that reflects well on your wedding

This isn’t same-day shipping.
This is your wedding day.
Period.

And the vendors who charge more?
Nine times out of ten—it’s because they:
✔️ Are licensed and insured
✔️ Are established
✔️ Are respected in the industry
✔️ Bring calm to the chaos
✔️ Clean up other vendors’ messes (without ever telling you)

There is no such thing as budget luxury.
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

When I send you a recommendation, it’s not random.
It’s based on experience, reputation, and a promise that I’ll only align you with vendors who match the energy, quality, and culture of your day.

Because great vendors don’t cause chaos—
They fix it.
Quietly. Professionally.
And they deserve to be paid for that.

You’re building a team.
Choose the people who play to win.

Tag your fave vendor below
or save this for when the group chat gets spicy.

Stop Fixating on Your Total Budget - It’s Your Cost Per Guest That Matters 💡

Let’s flip the script on wedding budgets. That $50k budget? Means completely different things at different guest counts.

Let’s break it down:
$50k for 50 guests = $1,000 per person experience
• Premium plated dinner
• Top-shelf open bar
• Designer rentals
• Live band
• Luxury welcome gifts
• That amazing photographer
• Dream venue with space to spare

Same $50k for 250 guests = $200 per person
• Basic buffet
• Cash bar
• Standard chairs
• Spotify playlist
• Venue at max capacity
• Minimal decor
• Budget cuts everywhere

Reality check: Your budget isn’t just a number - it’s a per-person investment in the experience you’re creating.

When you think “each person costs $400 to attend”:
• Suddenly that invite list gets real clear
• Your second cousin’s new boyfriend? $400
• Mom’s bridge club friends? $1600
• That coworker you barely know? $400
• Table of high school friends you haven’t seen in 6 years? $4000

This isn’t about being cold - it’s about being intentional.

Because when you realize each “courtesy invite” is literally taking away from the experience of your actual VIPs, those tough guest list conversations get a lot easier.

Venue Reality Check:

Have you heard of ‘house poor’? Well, trust me, you don’t want to be ‘venue poor’ either.

That mountain view venue asking $15k? They’re not just charging for pretty views - they’ve invested millions in those pristine gardens, backup weather solutions, and that ‘effortlessly elegant’ infrastructure you’re swooning over.

But here’s the real talk:
If your total budget is $40k, spending $15k on venue alone means you’re sacrificing any of these:
- The Expert Coordinator who prevents disasters ($3-5k)
- The DJ who keeps your dance floor alive ($2-3k)
- The Photographer capturing those views ($4-6k)
- Quality Catering because hungry guests = angry guests ($12-15k)
- The Bar that keeps the party going ($3-5k)
- And all those ‘little details’ that actually make a wedding function

Those Instagram-worthy venues aren’t giving away that luxury for free. That pristine backdrop? It’s maintained year-round. Those perfect washrooms? They’re not port-a-potties. That stunning getting-ready suite? It’s designed for those photos you’re dreaming of.

Yes, invest in your venue. But invest smartly.
Because a beautiful view without a proper wedding budget is just an expensive photo location.

Choose wisely. Plan strategically.

Sound overwhelming? I get it. Let’s break down YOUR venue budget together. Grab a free first date session (link in bio) and we’ll make sure your dream venue fits your complete wedding vision - not just your Instagram feed. ✨

👉🏾 The real impact of cultural code-switching
👉🏾 What ‘well-meaning’ comments actually sound like
👉🏾 The mental load we carry
👉🏾 How we can move forward together

Let’s talk about it: planning a Black wedding in YEG hits different. Some days you’re explaining cultural traditions, other days you’re balancing family expectations, and EVERY day you’re creating a legacy of love.

This is your sign to:

Honour those traditions
Include those cultural elements
Create those family moments
And stop apologizing for celebrating your way
Because somewhere, your ancestors are smiling watching you blend old traditions with new beginnings.

Shoutout to day 24! To my Black couples planning their big day, I’m here to help you create, celebrate, and commemorate your love story. Drop a 🖤 below if you’re ready to plan your legacy wedding.

Let’s talk about “The Client Switch Up” - when potential clients suddenly become ghosts after discovering who’s behind your amazing work. If you’ve ever had inquiries go cold once they saw your face on that Zoom call, or had “we decided to go in a different direction” become an all-too-familiar phrase... this is for you. Breaking down what’s really happening, the true impact, and how to protect your business moving forward. Because we’re done pretending this isn’t a pattern.

Your talent isn’t the issue. Your prices aren’t the problem. And you’re not imagining it. Save this post to reference when you need it, and drop a ❤️ if you’ve been here before.

When people ask why Black weddings have such large bridal parties, I need them to understand something:

This isn’t a new trend.
This isn’t for the photos.
This isn’t about being ‘extra.’

This is about LEGACY.

Our ancestors gathered in large numbers to witness love because they had to. Because their marriages weren’t legally recognized. Because community was how we survived.

Today, when we have 12 bridesmaids, we’re:
• Honoring those who couldn’t celebrate freely
• Maintaining our communal traditions
• Celebrating with our entire village
• Creating generational memories
• Displaying our cultural wealth

So no, you’re not doing too much.
You’re doing exactly what you’re supposed to do.
You’re continuing a legacy of collective joy.

Tell me below: How many people are in your bridal party? And who in your party represents a special piece of your history? 👇🏾

Part 2 of the things your wedding planner isn’t telling you... but I will! ☕️✨ Because sometimes peace requires strategic management, vendor meal breaks, and making yourself the scapegoat! Black History Month Day 15, and my daughter turns sixteen and specifically requested I drop these confessions today (SLAY young queen! 👸🏽). She’s been watching me navigate this industry, and these stories are her favourite part of what I do - when your kid thinks your work drama is the best tea, you know you’re doing something right! Still breaking barriers one perfectly executed wedding at a time! 🖤

Which confession hits closest to home for my vendor friends? Drop it below! 👇🏾

Black languages hit different - and if you know, YOU KNOW! 👊🏾 Day 12 of Black History Month and we’re diving DEEP into our linguistic legacy! From Nigeria’s 500+ languages to Caribbean patois that has your cousins speaking in tongues, we’re celebrating the beautiful chaos of our multilingual magic ✨

Plot twist: Being multilingual isn’t the flex, it’s SURVIVAL! And that one aunty with 6 Nigerian languages? She’s gatekeeping harder than a bouncer on New Year’s Eve!

Drop a 🗣️ if you’ve ever been the designated family translator or had to fake your way through a conversation!

Let’s have an honest conversation about something that’s been happening for too long: The “Black Tax.”

You know what I’m talking about:
- The “special pricing” when they hear your music selection
- The extra fees when you mention your guest count
- The “complex event” surcharge when you describe your traditions
- The higher security deposits “just because policy”

As a planner, I’ve seen the same venues, same dates, same services quoted differently just because the couple is Black. And we need to talk about it.

It’s not in your head. It’s not “just business.” It’s not because our celebrations are ‘more complex.’ It’s discrimination dressed up in business casual.

To my couples: Know your worth. Ask questions. Get everything in writing. Share experiences. Don’t let anyone make you feel like your celebration needs to be smaller, quieter, or less cultural to be worthy of their space.

To my fellow vendors: If you see it, say something. If you know it’s happening, call it out. Our silence makes us complicit.

Drop a 🖤 if you’ve experienced this, and share your story below. The more we talk about it, the harder it is to ignore.

Let’s talk about it: being a Black creative in YEG’s wedding industry hits different. Some days you’re educating, other days you’re excavating generational wealth, and EVERY day you’re excellence in motion.

This is your sign to:
- Raise those prices
- Own that expertise
- Build that empire
- And stop apologizing for taking up space

Because somewhere, a couple is praying for a vendor who gets their vision without explanation.

Shoutout to day 9 and to my fellow Black vendors: I’m looking to collaborate, elevate, and celebrate with you. Drop a 👑 below if you’re ready to build together.

Part 1 of the things your wedding planner isn’t telling you... but I will! 🫖✨ Because sometimes peace requires a little... strategic management. Black History Month Day 7, and yes, I’m still the only Black wedding planner they see at most venue open houses in YEG. No, I can’t teach you how to dougie at your reception (okay maybe I can 💃🏾), and no, I don’t know ALL the other Black vendors in the city - but I’d love to! Here’s to breaking barriers one perfectly executed wedding at a time! 🖤
