It’s raining today which is very welcome. It’ll wash off the dust, water some plants and hopefully tamp down the wildfires and smoke.
Summer rains are always a bit of a double edged sword. We’re grateful for it for the previously mentioned reasons, but it also can do a bit of damage. Plants become heavy and fall over, rain can damage petals on some or just splash mud onto them. And the soil is softened so that combined with the accompanying wind, larger plants like sunflowers and amaranth blow right over onto the ground.
So fingers crossed it stays a gentle rain for us!
We picked everything we could yesterday while it was still dry so will still have a great selection at markets this weekend.
Find us at Trout Lake and Riley Park farmers markets on Saturday and at the Kitsilano farmers market on Sunday.
Zinnias, sunflowers, marigolds, asters, statice, strawflowers, snapdragons, amaranth and a pile more are coming along to market.
The rain should be finished by the morning and we’ll have all the floral sunshine you could need!

The asters are kicking off this week! I’m not usually a big fan of red flowers, but I make an exception for these asters. They’re blooming in a lovely blush and some purple as well this week.
There are many species of asters, but these fluffy ones are called Callistephus chinensis and are native to China and Korea. They are long lasting blooms and they’ll be blooming for a few weeks.
You can find them this weekend at Riley Park and Trout Lake farmers markets on Saturday and the Kitsilano farmers market on Sunday along with piles of other blooms.
Zinnias, snapdragons, sunflowers, cosmos, strawflowers, statice, marigolds and plenty of other blooms are coming along to market.
And the Cropthorne farmstand is stocked with zinnias, marigolds and mixed bouquets for the weekend too. Hope to see you!

Alllll the colour for this weekend’s mixed bouquets! 🌈
I sometimes think that I’ve gravitated towards flower farming because of all the colour. There are so many tones and nuances and I get a kick out of putting them all together, whether it’s interpreting the colour palette requests of our DIY buckets, choosing new flower varieties in new colours, putting together bouquets or just being awed by the latest addition to the dahlia patch blooming for the first time.
Julie designed this week’s bouquet in honour of Pride Weekend in Vancouver. Happy Pride y’all, don’t forget your sunscreen!
Find us at Trout Lake and Riley Park farmers markets on Saturday and Kitsilano on Sunday. 🌈

It’s been another busy July week here at the farm.
We finished weeding and mulching the big dahlia patch and they’re looking fantastic. In a few weeks we’ll be picking buckets and buckets of them.
The sunflowers are cranking out beautiful blooms and we’ve been picking buckets of them every day.
One of the tunnels got a much needed weeding, as well as lots of our summer blooming annuals like zinnias, celosia, asters and chocolate lace.
This also might have been the first week in a long time that we didn’t do any transplanting. Most of our 2025 blooming crops are planted already. But 2026 blooming crops are already on their way!
You can find us at Trout Lake and Riley Park farmers markets on Saturday and we’re back at the Kitsilano farmers market this Sunday too. The Cropthorne Farmstand is stocked for the weekend too!

We’ve been saving all the short, the small, the few, the not-fitting-in-a-prescribed-box sorts of flowers when we prep for market and then putting them together into what we call the wild/meadow/mini bouquets at the end of the day.
I think it might be my favourite thing these days!
You can find a few of these unique bouqs at Trout Lake and Riley Park farmers markets this Saturday. We’ll have some larger mixed bouquets, piles of sunflowers, strawflowers, the first marigolds and zinnias, lots of dryable blooms and all kinds of other flowers as well.
See you at market!

It’s sunflower season!
We grow almost 8 types of sunflowers over the course of the summer. We have the more common yellow ones with both yellow and dark centres, but have you seen these creamy ones before? Or these soft yellow ones? How about the fluffy double petaled ones?
They’re hitting their stride this week and we’ll be harvesting sunflowers every day for the next few months. Did you know that the plants follow the sun over the course of the day to capture as much of the suns energy as possible?
Come find us at markets this weekend to pick up a bunch of these beauties!
We’ll be at Trout Lake farmers market on Saturday AND we’re returning to Riley Park farmers market this Saturday too! We’ll also have feverfew and sweet peas (almost the last of the year for both), strawflowers, centaurea, cosmos, a little larkspur, some lovely mixed bouquets (featuring sunflowers!) and a few other blooms.
We won’t be attending the Kits market this weekend, but hope to see you at one of our Saturday markets or out at the Cropthorne farmstand.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Another week of summer in the books! The days seem to fly by even faster than usual at this time of year.
We’ve planted the majority of our fall and summer crops now and this month we’ll mostly be playing catch up with the weeds, keeping everything watered and finding new crops ready for their first harvest a few times a week.
This week we’ll have lots of centaurea (aka bachelor’s buttons, aka cornflower) as well as agrostemma and feverfew. Lots of wildflower-esque blooms (that we have intentionally and carefully grown and harvested, so we don’t like to call them wild).
You can find us at Trout Lake and Kitsilano farmers markets this weekend and we’ve stocked the with blooms as well.
See ya at market!

Bright colours for the weekend!

This week we’ve tackled a few big jobs around the farm:
-the dahlias are now weeded and ready for mulching
-the peonies are all weeded and have had their irrigation fixed up
-we took care of an old perennial field that needed to be pulled out so we can replant next week

We also kept up with the seeding, harvesting and planting. Unfortunately the tractor broke down so being up to date with planting is about to slip while we wait for it to be fixed, but the weeds will keep us busy till then!
On the harvest list this week and coming to market are these feverfew and bachelors buttons, as well as the last of the godetia, and some sweet peas, snapdragons, calendula, agrostemma, garden roses and a few other blooms. And some colourful mixed bouquets too. 🌈
See you at Trout Lake and Kitsilano farmers markets!

Godetia! What a brilliant bloom. Its common name is Farewell to Spring, and it’s just so fitting to have it in peak bloom today as it’s Summer Solstice.
We’ve gotten to the longest day of the year with the most light (in theory, it has been a little rainy and gray today!). That means plants are growing super fast with all the light energy they’re harvesting from the sun. Also growing quickly right now are the weeds, but we’re knocking them back as best we can.
We’re expecting some rain tonight, which is very welcome this week after a long dry stretch. Hopefully it’s dry for farmers markets tomorrow!
You can find us at Trout Lake and Kitsilano markets this weekend. This godetia as well as feverfew, garden roses, centaurea, sweet peas, ammobium, snapdragons and more are coming along. There are also a few blooms stocked at the this weekend too.

We’re hitting what we call ‘The June Gap’ at the farm. It’s the point at which the spring blooms have slowed down and the summer annuals have yet to kick in. So while we spend less time harvesting, we spend more time planting and weeding and getting ready for the summer blooms like these sunflowers.
Over the last three weeks we’ve planted 10s of thousands of plants. And there’s still more to be planted in the coming weeks!
This week’s blooms for market include the very LAST peonies, some wonderfully scented garden roses and sweet peas, some campanula, a handful of the first dahlias and a few other blooms.
You can find us at the Trout Lake farmers market on Saturday and the Kitsilano farmers market on Sunday. Unfortunately we just don’t have enough flowers to attend Riley Park this weekend as well.
And the farmstand is stocked with peonies and sweet peas at the moment too.

It’s garden rose season! The peonies are still around for another week or so, but the roses are having their moment.
We grow some specialty garden roses with beautiful colours and wonderful scents. Not your average rose! While their vase life isn’t amazing (you’ll get 3-5 day typically) you won’t be able to resist the scent.
Come and find us with roses, peonies, the LAST ranunculus, as well as campanula, sweet peas and some other wonderful June blooms this weekend.
We’ll be at Trout Lake farmers market on Saturday and Kitsilano farmers market on Sunday. Riley Park folks, I’m sorry, we don’t have enough blooms to attend this week.
The is also now open 6 days a week from 10:00-5:00 (closed Mondays) and it’s stocked with mixed bouquets, sweet peas, peonies and ranunculus this weekend.
See you there!

Peonies are the stars of the show around here right now! They bloom for 3 or so weeks from mid May to early June. We harvest them twice a day to catch them at the right stage and then they open to reveal some lovely scents, billowy petals and high drama.
I think we have at least 20 different varieties planted and this blush cupped one is newer to us and it’s fantastic!
You can find our peonies and lots of other blooms this week at 3 farmers markets in Vancouver and the this weekend.
💐Trout Lake Saturday
💐Riley Park Saturday
💐Kitsilano Sunday
💐Cropthorne farm stand Saturday
Also in season this week are the nearly finished ranunculus, the last stock, some excellent sweet peas, some fairyland-esque campanula and several other types of blooms. Come on out rain or shine!
