Twigs Flowers aka Zelda O'Connor

Twigs Flowers aka Zelda O'Connor My work is inspired by nature, woods, fields, hedges and waterways, and big and abundant romantic gardens filled with heritage flowers, herbs, foliage.

'Twigs' floral decorations are inspired by the movement and texture found in natural landscapes and gardens. I create florals for weddings and seasonal celebratory events. I grow signature flowers such as roses and sweet peas myself, and source other flowers and botanicals from local growers, floral wholesalers, and the woods, hedges, ditches and fields of the Comox Valley. I provide consultations

with DIY brides for their flowers and venue decorations. Flower crowns, flower necklaces, floral chandeliers and large wild fragrant seasonal bouquets are my specialty.

I have been lost in the garden and woods for most of the year; loving solitude and painting and gardening and casting spells to rid the world of darkness; one worked! Now the cacoon of rain and the lowering skies of December keep me in a state of contemplation and creativity. The veils between the worlds move and shift like the curtains of the Aurora Borealis; many of my family and friends on the other side now have a chance to visit. I think staying in one place and not thinking about the next event or trip or want has opened up galaxies formerly far away from our material world. Mine any ways!
Hope you like some of these images; starting with Spring.

Twigs Flowers is happy to introduce a little fun project called The Lonely Bouquet. Every week I will make a little bouquet which I will anonymously leave in a public place downtown with a little note explaining "I am a little lonely bouquet and I need a home; please give me a home out of the hot sun, for a week, or until my days are done!"
Happy Summer everyone!!

Spring rises towards Summer on this beautiful Pacific Coast island; the beauty of winter woods embellished with mosses, lichens and ferns has made way for springs' snowdrops, hellebore, daffodils and tulips, now succeeded by a flow of late spring and early summer seasonal flowers.

The flow of Nature is so swift and ephemeral one barely has time to appreciate and honor the beauty zooming past. Everyday I pick flowers, everyday a unique collection of bright beautiful little flower creatures brings light into our human realm; a posy of Violets, a little vase of yellow Primrose, a slender crystal vase for fragarant Lily of the Valley with a ruff of green leaves.

Tall, graceful stems of Columbine in a rainbow of blue, pink, lavender and raspberry shades, form an upper story canopy over the garden for just over a week in late May, then, a windy afternoon
sets flowers dancing and petals falling.

Flagged iris unfurl next, their scent perfumes the evening, and by the next afternoon the beautiful blossom is fading, and the next one down the stalk is opening.

Drifts of white and pale pink Dames Rocket glow in the gloaming, and more perfume swirls like smoke throughout nooks in the garden.

Roses are budding up, waiting for June until they begin to parade themselves under the blue skies and scudding clouds, and are tucked into every bouquet and posy.

Sweet Peas are gradually climbing the netting, the Cosmos, Nicotiana, Sunflowers and other annuals are planted. Poppies are dreaming of dancing in the borders, and Peonies swell and begin to burst into lush voluptuous gorgeousness.

Summer weddings and parties and birthdays will be dressed in loveliness from Twigs abundant garden.

Please order flowers 24 hours or more in advance, to give me time for harvesting and conditioning and designing. Large orders like weddings need much longer notice and consultations. I also make wreaths, pillars, arches, garlands, corsages, and traditional bouquets for weddings.

Happy Summer everyone!!

Sweet Pea Festival on Woods Avenue this July. The cool weather has been wonderful for Sweet Peas, who love moisture and cool weather. I have beautiful bunches of English Sweet Peas which are fragrant, frilly, each truss with 3 to five large flowers. Their hues are magical. Come by and pick up a bouquet for yourself or a friend.

Well its been too long since last I posted on this page. Rawness and sleet has usurped the warmth of the sun, and faded the colours in the garden.
Here are a few images to encourage us to plant our seeds, encourage the roots, and leaves to return to the upper world for our joy, and that of all creatures in our world.

Twigs will be taking a break from the market this weekend due to the heat, which is hard on both flowers and myself.
I will fill any orders if you call me a day ahead, so I am able to pick and condition the flowers for their longevity.
Sweet peas are gorgeous this week; roses, snapdragons, larkspur, queen anne's lace, icelandic poppies, hollyhock, thistles, grasses, lillies to die for, scabious, scented stocks and tall white nicotiana which fills your evenings with perfume. The bouquets will be madly abundant and fragrant and unforgettable over the next few weeks, and bigger and more flamboyant than those I sell at the market.
Call me on cell at 250 897 8376, or my home phone 250 897 1426.
This years garden is magical, there are so many honey bees, furry fliers, bumble bees, other little pollinators, and more butterflies than I have seen since long ago days when the world was more harmonious.

Have a beastly case of gardeners paw, and thus will be absent from the market once again. Flowers are lovely but the hard work of them is a killer. See you next week
