Made a quick pit stop before work the other day. I bring my camera with me just about everywhere just in case something catches my eye. It was really foggy and I was able to make it out in time to stop, even for the few minutes it was.

Photography allows me to zoom out

Life, as we all know, has a knack for sucking you into the hustle of every day. Wake up, eat, go to work, come home, eat again, sleep, repeat. Photography slows my mind down. It allows me to notice how the wood on the ground looks under the light shining through, the trickle of water to the side of the waterfall.. the little details often overlooked when chugging through the non-stop battle that is every day.

How do you zoom out?

Trying to explore my creativity when editing lately. I’ve always struggled with what i think should be “correct” and in doing so I don’t share my work. I tell myself it’s not good enough quite a lot. Allowing myself to be more creative and think outside the box has helped me feel better in sharing what I do.

Cascade Falls - Mission BC

When we made plans to go here a week prior, the weather was showing a forecast of blue sky’s and relatively warm temperatures. Fast forward to the day of, we had “mostly cloudy” with a 1% chance of less than 1mm rain.

That simply was not the case.

Before we arrived, it started to sprinkle. Not an issue, that’s what we were expecting. That was until we started the short walk up to the falls. It’s a good thing i packed my rain coat because by the end of the shoot, we were COMPLETELY drenched. The amount of rain that came down felt like we were stuck in a storm at times. Fortunately, that made for great photos of this falls!

Hopefully next time I’m here the weather actually is what it says it’ll be ☀️

Just a few frames from my last hike. Picked up a new (to me) 70-300mm zoom lens and have been seeing how it works for me. So far i’m really enjoying the extra reach!
