SEVEN WEEKS. THAT’S ALL IT TOOK.
In the next chapter of humiliation, TD Bank (mortgage through Canadian Small Business Development Fund) and Saugeen Economic Development Corporation (who hold our business loan), have treated our family and business with total disdain.

Seven weeks ago, we were evicted. Long story.

For seven weeks, we were blocked from access and tending the land we have poured everything into. In that time, the property was left without care, oversight or security.

We left the property staged and ready for showings. Sometime after we were evicted by TD Bank, disaster struck.

The heat-welded seams on the skylight detached, opening a large hole in the dome roof. Rain has been pouring in for weeks. No one did anything about it.

Tens of thousands of dollars in damage. The dome is soaked. Furniture and custom installations are destroyed.
Our specialty Sky Camp built together with our kids and good friends - left in shambles. Andrew put so much into this camp. Truly heartbreaking.

We don't know what caused the original damage to the roof. We weren't allowed to be there. But this place deserved better care.

What we do know is that the SEDC came on site sometime after this happened, saw the gaping hole in the ceiling, piled pillows from the furniture underneath, removed chattels from outside the camp, left all the furniture inside the dome open to the elements.

The SEDC then removed the Sauna with custom bench and deck. The composting Washroom Pod was detached, the woodshed removed.
The camp was left a mess inside and out. They left the hole knowing we had no access to fix the issue.

This was the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation. A Community Futures company that is given the mandate to support and develop economic growth in Canada. This is how they have treated our work and investment.

TD Bank was informed weeks ago that there were concerns at the dome, requesting access. Denied.

After nearly five years of advocacy to protect land rights, confirm the Commercial Designation and expansion through the NEC & OLT, all while growing a beautiful eco friendly, positive business, this is how our efforts and investment are treated??

I finally just went this Saturday to see the truth myself.

It is one thing to be run off our land, forced into humiliating circumstances - but standing there, looking at what had happened to our camp while we were powerless to intervene, my heart broke.

We could be open, hosting summer bookings. Instead we are sending cancelations, refunds and apologies. There were solutions though TD Bank chose to pull the plug 3 weeks after we finally tasted freedom. This is what government-backed economic development looks like, Ontario.

All of our machinery and equipment for Bubble Grove and DB Trailblazers was seized with the land. Everything built over decades as active business in Ontario. Gone.

The waste & disrespect is staggering.

Economic Development should build and grow, not dismantle and destroy.

**NIMBY's & Red Tape - Our Ontario businesses are being forced close**

After four years of constant advocacy and fighting through the government planning process simply to continue hosting guests on a property that has hosted guests since 1983, our capacity has been pushed to the edge.

We have worked diligently to be positive members of our community.

The ongoing Ontario Land Tribunal appeals continued until June 3rd 2026. This prevented any viable financing or investment solutions from emerging in time.

Active businesses.
Bookings coming in.
Opportunities on the horizon.

Yet TD Bank, through our government backed Canadian Small Business Development Fund loan, is forcing our hand and has seized our land.

They have refused any supportive financing solutions yet the costs of closure and fees will exceed the amount we requested to borrow to stay open and active.

Make that make sense.

We are not closing because we are insolvent:

* We hold a commercial appraisal showing our debt-to-equity position is at a viable and respectable 50%.

We aren't closing because there isn't market interest:

* We have bookings on the calendar into 2027, thousands of dollars in pre-sales, and have received requests for thousands more in bookings just this week.

We are not closing due to lack of effort:

* We have invested thousands of hours over 4 years while successfully defendeding every planning challenge we were forced to answer, and in the meantime secured extensive and impressive commercial designation that unlocks exceptional operational opportunities on this land and one heck of a confirmed expansion.

Bubble Grove is a legal and compliant Existing Use commercial Retreat Centre with an inherent right to grow and expand over time.

That is policy. That is law.

Yet it took 4 years of hard fight to defend our rights and now only weeks after finally being freed from baseless appeals, our Canadian Small Business Development Fund loan is being called.

All of the public and private resources committed to this process, wasted.

A small group of NIMBYs with no evidence and a whole lot of entitlement were granted power and access to essentially run us out of the Valley.

This is weaponization of public process and we are the sacrificial lambs.

At no point have we been free to do our business or enjoy our land. It has been truly impossible to do business under these circumstances.

This should not be the outcome.
Ontario is not "Open For Business"

We are resilient and adaptable beasts. Eventually we will move beyond this bu****it, but right now I am feeling rather rageful at the wasteful pipeline for business development we have. I think I get to speak from an informed position at this point - it is s**t. this has been a series of ridiculous wasteful moments that have squandered time and opportunity under the continual banner of "Process & Fairness"

What the f*ck is fair about this?

Anywho, onward we go through a swirling cloud of question marks. So many other things could have happened here. So many.

We are now closed.

**A cautionary tale.**

Ontario called for more rural hospitality operators.
We answered.

We found a property transitioning from more than 40 years as a religious retreat centre that had welcomed thousands of guests.

Our proposal wasn't to introduce commercial use.

It is an adaptive reuse built on the property's extensive history, existing policy, and established law - evolving a long-standing hospitality operation to continue to share this incredible landscape.

The Niagara Escarpment Commission knew.

They had multiple documents in their own files, dating back decades, confirming the retreat centre's continuous use.

So why were we forced through four years of process to prove what they already knew and held answers for?

Grey County knew.

They had promoted and advertised the retreat centre for years.

The neighbours knew.

In writing and under oath, they acknowledged they had known about the retreat centre for decades. They stated they had experienced no negative impacts and had supported the previous owners' religious retreat use, they complimented the former guests and would support the continuation of religious retreat use.

The neighbours heading this up have hosted numerous large events and have hundreds of thousands of square feet of permanent development on their lands to support their commercial Ag business.

Yet they continually challenged our eco forward planning, non permanent structures, and inclusive business through repeated complaints and appeals, stating that our use was " unfamiliar to their local culture and labdscape".

This has been NIMBY people Zoning through weaponized public process.

This is a sham.
And it's a shame.

We followed the rules.
We did exactly what government asks entrepreneurs to do. We proved that our property had Existing Use status dating back to 1983 for heck sake.

Today, Bubble Grove is confirmed as a legal and compliant hospitality business, continuing more than 40 years of uninterrupted commercial retreat use.

It should not have taken four years to continue what is already known, documented, supported through policy, protected by law.

Ontario has been clear about the future it wants to build.

More tourism.
Stronger rural economies.
Agritourism.
Ontario businesses that scale.
Investment that creates jobs.
Entrepreneurs building outside the GTA.

I keep reading those announcements thinking...

Bubble Grove checks every box.

✔ Rural economic development.
✔ Tourism expansion.
✔ Agritourism.
✔ Environmental stewardship.
✔ Local jobs.
✔ Adaptive reuse of an existing property.
✔ Year-round visitor attraction.
✔ A woman-founded business.
✔ A project that has already navigated four years of planning, approvals, and public scrutiny.

This isn't a concept on a whiteboard.

It's an 86-acre hospitality destination with fully secured commercial permissions, approved expansion, and a vision that has been tested through one heck of a planning process.

Ontario says it wants businesses that strengthen communities, create employment, diversify agriculture, encourage domestic tourism, and bring new economic activity into rural regions.

Yet here we are... still standing after 4 years of enforced Government processes to confirm 40 years of active, documented history against completely empty challenges by a group of biased NIMBYs who weaponized public process to curate their neighborhood.

We've invested everything we have.
We followed the process.
We worked through years of planning, environmental review, public consultation, appeals, and approvals.

Thousands of hours navigating the red tape we were forced to endure despite continually proving the law and policy was on our side.

We're not asking anyone to imagine the opportunity. It is here and ready to fly.

We have done the work, followed the rules, and it has grounded this project into waiting mode.

Now we need Ontario to back this business bringing everything it keeps saying it wants to see succeed.

We want to share the fabous news with all of you - the appeals against Bubble Grove have finally ended!

This latest appeal at the Ontario Land Tribunal has been ongoing already for 7 months.

Last week the Tribunal set a trial date for 2 days at the end of June. Almost immediately the Appellants against us chose to withdraw from the case completely.

Done done done

After years of ongoing actions against us, we are finally free to be on our own land, unfettered by outside interference, and growing this beautiful dream.

We are processing and will have more to share soon.

This has been long, weird, hard, and so frustrating. So many have written, called, reached out, offered care, understanding, and mutual rage.

We were back before the Ontario Land Tribunal today.

What is happening around our case should concern every property owner, entrepreneur, and taxpayer in Ontario, because precedents are being shaped through these processes that might be used against you someday, too..

At yet another opportunity to assess whether this appeal meets the evidentiary and procedural thresholds established through Ontario planning jurisprudence, and dismiss this empty challenge against a legal and compliant long standing Retreat property, the Tribunal instead directed this matter toward trial on June 25 & 26 to give the Appellants a chance to be heard.

Heard on what, we continue to have no idea.

To date, neither the Appellants nor the Tribunal have substantively addressed the core legal and procedural concerns we have repeatedly raised throughout this process.

Through numerous submissions, we have presented dozens of case authorities regarding:

• what constitutes valid planning evidence
• the requirement for clearly identified policy conflict
• the role of independent expert testimony
• and the standards expected of parties advancing an appeal, particularly third-party appellants challenging a lawful and conforming Existing Use.

Yet many of these very salient points remain unanswered. Basically ignored.

That is deeply concerning.

Legal tests, evidentiary thresholds, and procedural requirements exist for a reason. When unsupported or speculative appeals are permitted to advance without those standards being meaningfully addressed, the impacts extend far beyond a single case. The result is increased cost, prolonged uncertainty, strain on public systems, and further barriers to productive economic activity in Ontario.

This process continues to place an enormous burden on our family, our business, and our future, redirecting years of time, energy, and resources away from building the very enterprise that supports our livelihood and contributes to our community.

After four years in planning and 3 years of proceedings against us, there still has been no demonstrated evidence of negative impact presented against our use, nor independent expert testimony challenging our evid
