☕️ Tea Time or... Tea Time? 🫖
Ever wondered if you’re actually at "High Tea" or just enjoying a lovely "Afternoon Tea"?
Despite how we use the terms today, they aren't actually the same thing! Here’s the tea on the difference:
🍰 Afternoon Tea (The Fancy One)
The Vibe: Pure elegance. Think lace tablecloths, tiered stands, and pinkies up.
The Menu: Crustless finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, and delicate pastries.
The Timing: Traditionally served around 4:00 PM as a bridge between lunch and a late dinner.
The Name: Called "Low Tea" historically because it was enjoyed in low, comfortable parlor chairs.
🥧 High Tea (The Hearty One)
The Vibe: Rustic and filling. This was the "working man’s" evening meal.
The Menu: Much heavier! Think meat pies, pickled fish, bread and butter, and baked goods.
The Timing: Served closer to 5:00 or 6:00 PM as a main supper after a long workday.
The Name: It’s called "High Tea" simply because it was eaten at a high dining table, not because it was "high class."
Next time you’re reaching for a cucumber sandwich, remember: you’re likely an Afternoon Tea aficionado!
Which one are you choosing today? ✨
