♡ Theresa & Maddie ♡

I love celebrating the engagement milestone before getting married.

It’s so special and gives an opportunity to story tell what brought them here, moments they shared together and the beginning and capturing the excitement of their wedding day.

A huge priority to me now, after years of being in the wedding industry, is curating a style that does not revolve around “beautiful shots for portfolio” but instead focusing on the authenticity of your personalities, quirks and genuine love.

Have you noticed a certain trend of wedding films trying to be SO perfect..SO cinematic..Everything slowed down..

Although the shots are beautiful they don’t really reflect authentic moments and the rawness of these moments. They leave you feeling like things were forced in a way, to posed, a little fake and commercialized.

This is a common theme a lot of couples feel who get turned off of video which I 100% understand.

Although I’ve invested in top of the line gear and capture things in a cinematic and professional grade, my editing is where the magic happens.

How the moments are portrayed. How the story is told.

I genuinely do stand by the fact that almost anyone can film weddings, anyone can edit a wedding film but it takes extreme attention to detail and passion to story tell.

Keep this aspect in mind when choosing yours if that’s something important to you ❤️

These two! Steve’s vows will never cease to amaze me and tug at my heart strings.

From our engagement session all the way up until their wedding, the love between these two has been so beautiful to witness and capture. ❤️

I’m so excited to share Morgan & Ethan’s love story that took place in Kananaskis 🏔️

What a blast I had with these two. Not only were they madly inlove, but their willingness to be their vulnerable, inlove, goofy selves made it effortless for me to capture their moments.

Thank you so much to these two for trusting in me ❤️

💫 Let’s talk framing and composition 💫

This is something I love chatting about because it brings so much depth to your film.

When there is a lack of these two things, it can be felt, but you’re not sure how to put your finger on it.

You just know that when watching things, everything kind of feels the same.

It doesn’t feel like there’s multiple perspectives.

As if everything is just one shot, one angle, of different things. Does that make sense?

To answer this question, do I wing it or is in intentional? It’s actually a bit of both.

Because every location is different, the environment I’m given to utilize shifts and that’s where the winging it part comes in.

I work with what I have in the moment, but the intentional aspect comes from my desire to seek out what I can use, to add more to each shot.

Examples:

In nature, I love using greenery for fore ground. Whether it’s trees, forests, the corner of a building.

During ceremony, I love using the wedding party as foreground as I focus on the bride/ groom. Shooting through the gap between the groomsmen or bridesmaids.

For reception, using guests as foreground as I coast from side to side of the room capturing your first dances.

I enjoy framing my subjects in multiple ways instead of always in the middle as well.

Maybe you’re far right, far left.

Maybe you’re blurred and have a bit of space between you and your fiancé as the mountains are in focus between you.

Some people say I “hop around like a bunny” and this is because I’m always trying to get as much perspective as I can!

I am not a videographer who stands in 1-2 spots and calls it a day.

I’m moving with my gimbal to create the feeling of truly being there and being able to watch your moments and really feel like you were there.

I’ve had couples sad about their galleries with certain vendors that they’ve shared with me and the common denominator is lack of composition and framing. This breaks my heart to hear.

That will never be something I lack in my deliverables as it is a priority to me & if you value artistry, I encourage you to ask yours photo + vid vendors if this is important to them as-well❤️

🎶 Let’s talk music! 🎶

There are many aspects that go into making a film feel beautiful, effortless and aligned with my couples moments.

In my opinion, music can make or break this easily, so let’s talk about it and get to know my process behind intentional music selection.

Have you ever watched a wedding film that has 1-2 songs?

Did it feel dry and empty?

Lacking the essence of the moment and the emotions that took place?

Of course it did.

To be frank, this is extremely boring and lazy on an editors behalf. Unless of course you requested a certain song and want it to be that way.

But because of copyright issues and needing to use licensed music platforms, this is 9/10 times out of the couples control.

But let’s say you had no requests and solely left it up to your videographer to choose and you received something that was the above, would you be stoked?

Do you think you would be transported back to your moments in the ways you’d hoped?

Do you think you’d shed tears?

Probably not.

This is because no matter how beautiful the moments are, if they aren’t paired with intentional music, it will most likely feel like something is missing.

This is why I love to switch it up often throughout my couples films.

I never like a song going for more than 30 seconds.

There are certain parts of different songs I like that I pick apart and mold together.

Sometimes I get lucky and find one I really dig on it’s own but more than often I find myself loving the melody of one beat, pairing it with different instruments from another to create an intro and occasionally intertwining partial vocals at certain parts that feel right.

This approach takes SO much time because finding music is already one of the most time consuming things but it is so worth it and something I know my couples appreciate.❤️

Alright, couples!

This post in my opinion is one of the most important things to take into consideration when choosing the perfect videographer for you wedding, so get a snack and read until the end!

You will quickly find out who cares and who copies and pastes their wedding films when asking this question so, let’s get right into it.

I have talked about this quite a bit in various story posts, but I wanted to make a post solely dedicated to this.

What is a priority for me to make my couples’ films feel whole and authentic?

This will be broken into 2 segments:

Pre-Wedding
Wedding Day

Pre-Wedding:

Let’s start with pre-wedding research. Prior to your wedding day, it’s important for me to get to know you because this will affect the way in which I show up for you. I will ask you questions like:

Are you extroverts? Introverts?

Do you prefer candid moments or editorial and direction?

Are you comfortable on film or not?

What’s your favorite music? Or music you really don’t like?

Are you wanting to share vows in front of your family and friends or keep it private between you two?

Are you including any activities for your day, or is it more laid back?

Are you having a certain theme?

These questions help me SO much and will alter the way my workflow unfolds on your big day.

Wedding Day:

When I show up for your day, firstly I want to get comfy with your family and friends. Help give them some tips and tricks from a videographer’s perspective and make everyone feel comfortable.

Why? This reflects in your film 100%.

Imagine if a vendor showed up, didn’t talk to anyone, stayed off in the corner, and didn’t care to connect at all. The outcome? People looking directly into the camera lens, often confused, acting unnatural, not knowing how to act, feeling uncomfortable, and disconnected from the moment because they’re suddenly aware they’re on film.

Not a good look, right?

I’ve shared this story before, but I’ve gained a few hundred followers since then and want to share it again to help you get to know the beginning of my journey..

To be fully transparent, I honestly never pursued stepping into the wedding world, let alone professional videography..

I was just a young YouTuber who enjoyed romanticizing my life and capturing moments, creating a scrapbook of sorts..

I loved the simple things like capturing my pets, doing activities, hanging out with my friends, making smoothies, doing yoga, traveling, and sharing things that were helping my quality of life improve—whether it be meditation, self-love, the power of affirmations, you name it..

Anything in my life felt worth remembering, so I captured it and made fun videos out of it just for the sake of having fun and genuinely enjoying piecing together the little moments and making something out of nothing..

I liked the idea that I could capture moments in motion and be able to remember them with the click of a button because I forget a lot of things sometimes, and all of us forget the in-betweens and small things over time..

But I loved and valued my lifetime on this planet so much that I wanted to have something to reflect on in the future..

That’s what most people don’t really know about my socials like Instagram and what I used to do on YouTube—most of it was for me, an online gallery of moments I wanted to remember down the line..

Fast forward to when I met one of my best friends , I made her a video compilation of all of our memories from the two years we had been friends and gave it to her for her birthday..

She is a photographer, and for the first years of our friendship, I just watched her pursue her dreams and cheered her on, but it never went past the fact of “my best friend’s a photographer, cool!” 😂

I still worked my jobs and made my little videos. I was in my early twenties living on my own and just experiencing life with no desire to build a career. I was just trying to pay my rent at the time if I’m being honest lol!

I know I posted these two the other day but omg these film stills seriously steal my heart.

The fact that 7/8 of these scenes are completely candid with zero posing is something that becomes more and more relevant to me with every session.

It’s the feeling I aim to capture even more of this summer and moving forward.

Authentic, raw, natural emotion.

Coming into my third year of business, I’ve come to start understanding what feels best to me for the things I want to bring to life. The emotions I want to convey in my films.

I will always adore having a splash of editorial finesse, however I’m really digging how organic moments on film feel when I have very little influence on my couples and capture them simply being.

I have some beautiful visions in mind for weddings coming up this summer and cannot wait to create with all of you.

Every year I feel inspired to step more into my art, more into what feels best and I’ve never felt settled at “this is the way I’m going to film and edit, period” rinse and repeat.

It means a-lot to me for my brain to keep thinking, “how can I make this better? How can I make this feel even more authentic?” Tweaking and fine tuning constantly.

I don’t like when portrait sessions feel forced. Unnatural. Stagnant. You know?

I always aim for there to be a certain flow when I start guiding my couples, a peaceful unfolding of fluid energy.

In every inquiry call my number one priority is for your day to NOT feel like a photoshoot!

Because that isn’t fun! Running through tons of poses, when you could be just being present with family and friends having fun, while being given minimum input.

Enough input to give you direction and not feel aimless, but not to much that takes you away from the moment. Does that make sense?

Thanks for reading this and getting to know my process, if you’re still reading you rock ❤️
