This is one of my favourite photos of all time, shot 8 years ago. I don’t know why I love it so much, I just do.
It’s wild to think this will be my 20th summer capturing weddings. In so many ways, everything has changed, and in other ways, not so much.
I’ve watched trends come and go. Mason jars and burlap, blush and gold everything, too much contrast in edits or complete desaturation of colours, train tracks and broken down barn backdrops, sepia tone lovin’, and even selective colouring (you know, where part of the photo is on colour and the other part is black & white). And now, a shift toward documentary-style storytelling, direct flash, true-to-life edits, and photos that feel a little more imperfect, but a lot more real.
Weddings themselves have changed too. Couples are choosing smaller, more intentional celebrations. Backyard gatherings, fewer traditions, more meaning. Less pressure to perform, more focus on being present. More doing things their way.
But through all of it, the core has stayed the same.
The love. The emotion. The weight of the day. The quiet in-between moments. The way it all feels.
This is the part that never changes — and the reason I still love this just as much as I did 20 summers ago.
