Truth: Gardening isn’t always easy.

You can spend hours (okay, MANY hours) tending to your plants, and then one quick hailstorm can roll through and leave everything looking a little… deflated. It’s part of the reality of gardening in Calgary—beautiful one day, a bit wild the next!

Swipe to see a real-life before-and-after from one of our client’s container gardens. The storm lasted just a few minutes, but it packed a punch.

That said—plants are incredibly resilient. They’re built to grow back. And with around 12 weeks left in our growing season, there’s still lots of time for colour, fullness, and blooms to return.

If your garden or pots took a hit in the recent storm, here are a few ways you can help it bounce back:

🌿 Trim back any shredded, broken, or bent stems to encourage healthy new growth
🧹 Clear away debris—especially soggy leaves or petals that can cause rot or disease
📏 Stake or support anything that’s leaning or top-heavy to prevent more damage
💧 Water deeply—but give soil time to dry between waterings
🌸 Fertilize gently—a diluted, balanced fertilizer can give stressed plants the boost they need

Most importantly—don’t panic.
Even when things look rough, many plants will surprise you with how quickly they rebound. Within a week or two, you might already notice fresh new shoots and flower buds starting again.

We know it can be discouraging (especially after so much effort), but if you need help assessing damage, replanting, or just a second opinion, we’re always happy to help.

🌸 Hollyhocks – a timeless garden favourite for height and old-fashioned charm.

Growing up, I remember wandering through my grandmother’s garden, admiring her stunning hollyhocks. Back then, I didn’t even know what they were called, but now, after 17 years of gardening and running my business, they still bring a smile to my face.

They’ll always be a favourite to add to a client’s garden when they’re looking for something tall, showy, and perfectly suited to an English cottage style.
