Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families and Indigenous communities across Canada.
Here in Moh-kins-tsis, also known as Wicispa Oyade, Guts-ists-I and Otos-kwunee, we live and work on the ancestral and traditional territories of the Blackfoot Nations of Siksika, Piikani and Kainai, the Îethka Nakoda Wîcastabi Nations of Chiniki, Bearspaw and Goodstoney, and the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and within the homeland of the Métis Otipemisiwak.
Food connects us to people, place and land. It carries stories, traditions, knowledge and relationships that stretch across generations.
At Gather, our relationship with food also means thinking carefully about the land and resources that sustain us. Our commitment to thoughtful sourcing, reducing waste and making more sustainable choices comes with a responsibility to continually learn, listen and consider our impact.
Today, above all, is a day to honour, reflect and remember.
We are grateful to the Indigenous Peoples who have cared for these lands since time immemorial and whose cultures, knowledge and food traditions continue today.
