Table Talk: Cell Phone Etiquette
When you see examples of a place setting, there is no spot for a phone. This is a tough one, because people’s jobs are tied to their phones, or you have a babysitter that might need to call you and the list can go on and on! It’s best to take a cue from your hosts. If they have their phone on the table, then if you are so inclined you can follow suit. Etiquette tells us to follow these guidelines: when you need to answer the phone leave the table for a conversation and speak softly. Try to keep conversations to a minimum and question whether you really need to answer the call?Just a reminder that when you are texting, you aren’t socializing with your friends.

One movement that is starting to take over is the disappearance of cell phones at the table. In restaurants you will see all the cell phones stacked in the middle of the table and the first person that picks up their phone pays the bill.

A phone box is a new addition to dinner parties, where everyone throws their phone into a box and agree not to use them for an allotted amount of time.

Once again take your cue from your host and hostess and always remember to be respectful in your phone use. Keep your ringers at a low level and if you must take a call, take the conversation to another room.

What is the one item that you find at 95% of parties? Balloons!

How do you dispose of the balloons once the party is over?

When using balloons outside make sure they are weighted and tied. Whether it is latex or mylar balloons the one thing they have in common is they should never ever be released outside. It is littering and can be harmful to the environment and animals.

Latex balloons are biodegradable. Broken or popped balloons can be dangerous to small children and pets, so to keep everyone safe, make sure and pick up all the pieces and put them into the garbage.

Mylar balloons are also known as foil balloons and you can reuse them. You can deflate them, fold them, store them and reuse them, but be careful not to damage the valves. If you don’t think you will ever use it again, why not offer it for free on a buy and sell site.

Please consider how many balloons you really need for an event and remember to reduce, reuse and recycle!
