What a winter of life in the mountains. We’re coming up on six months since I flew out here with my husband and our cat.
Moving an established business to a new province is both exciting and humbling. Looking back, it’s been an incredible season filled with so many meaningful shoots. Weddings, elopements, family portraits, Airbnb shoots, and so many surprise proposals, with a branding shoot, doc shoot, and women’s retreat still to come before the end of the month.
Coming up on this six month mark also means we’re heading back to Nova Scotia in just over two weeks. We’ll be there through May and June, catching up with family and friends while capturing weddings and portraits, working on a doc project, and shooting another season of Short Film Face Off.
We’ll be back in Canmore and Banff for July and August, ready for summer adventures and more beautiful work. Then back to Nova Scotia again from the end of August to mid September to celebrate and capture weddings for some close friends.
Uprooting our lives this much is certainly daunting, and growing a business across two places has its challenges. It’s been a lot of trusting the process. Overall, through this experience I’ve really felt I’m fostering a better work life balance. After years of being a workaholic and hitting burnout, I’m realizing we show up more energized and creative in our work when we consistently prioritize personal life experiences, family, and adventure.
