We have such wonderful news to share!!! ✨✨✨

The owners of Vicar's View, Norm and Mary Campbell, have poured countless hours of love, care, and detail into making our concert series venue truly one-of-a-kind.

We're thrilled to announce that the pews from Greenwood United Church have now replaced our original seating, bringing a beautiful, historic touch to our space. These pews were carefully restored and thoughtfully incorporated into the venue to enhance your experience, making every event even more special.

Heartfelt thanks to Norm and Mary along with John and Marlene Hyde for their expertise and dedication to this project.

It's a blend of tradition, comfort, and community that we hope you'll enjoy for years to come. 🙏🏼✨

Come see the transformation. We can't wait to see you in Big Baddeck!

Award winning songwriters and musicians Terra Spencer and Kim Dunn come together for a night of stories, joy, and enchanting music that will leave your hearts full of love and inspriation.

Bad ideas, VCRs, crumbling factories, terrible therapists, hairy dogs, wrinkled shirts, French fries, questionable tattoos...all are fair game for Nova Scotian funeral director-turned-songwriter Terra Spencer. And the songs are good ones, judging from the accolades her four albums have received and from the caliber of collaborators like Ben Caplan, Dave Gunning, and David Francey, who welcomed Terra as a cowriter and performer on his JUNO-winning album The Breath Between. Terra's most recent release, 'Sunset', features guests from East to West - Matt Andersen, The Bombadils, Ryan Cook, lan Sherwood, Pillow Fite, and Stephen Fearing. Her duet with Stewart Legere called "Brick and Mortar" was named the winner of the Commonwealth Song Contest out of 20,000 entries. Although her butterscotch voice, deft fingerstyle guitar, and gospel-charged piano make her a formidable musician, it's her onstage ease and crackling homespun wit that make each show feel like a knee-to-knee conversation in a room of 5 or 500.

Born and raised in North Sydney, Cape Breton, and living just outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia, multi award winning musician Kim Dunn has been working on a successful music career for 30 years now, with a brief four year reprieve studying Jazz at ST. FX. In addition to producing, musical directing and arranging credits, Kim has worked with the who's who of East coast artists including, Rita MacNeil, Bruce Guthro, Laura Smith, Jimmy Rankin, Heather Rankin, Matt Anderson, Meaghan Smith, Dave Gunning, George Canyon, and many others.

A toast to the first night of Taking the Backroads...with some beautiful scenery, a few road trip stories, and the occasional pothole. It's spring, after all!

Our hosts Céo and Kathryn packed their Dartmouth living room with friends as Kim Dunn and I took a wander through each other's songbooks. Kim is only ever in top form, and I still can't believe my good fortune that I get to tag along. Thanks Deb S Lee for catching us looking presentable!

Harry Manx has been dubbed an "essential link" between the music of East and West, creating musical short stories that wed the tradition of the Blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas. His unique sound is bewitching and deliciously addictive to listen to.

Manx is a prolific artist, releasing nine albums in an eight-year span with no signs of stopping. He has received seven Maple Blues Awards and his mantel shelf also holds honours from the Canadian Folk Music Awards, Vancouver magazine Georgia Straight, and the
South Australia Blues Society. He received CBC Radio's Great Canadian Blues Awards for 2007 and his albums have garnered five Juno nominations.

Blend Indian folk melodies with slide guitar blues, add a sprinkle of gospel and some compelling grooves and you'll get Manx's unique "mysticssippi" flavour. It's hard to resist, easy to digest and keeps audiences coming
back for more.

A modern indie folk trio from Newfoundland, The Once have collected a trio of Canadian Folk Music Awards, numerous ECMA awards, and was named Artist of the Year by the Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council. They have earned not one, but two JUNO nominations for Roots Album of the Year and continue to take their music around the world.

With the release of 2024’s Out Here, The Once have delivered a thoughtful and playful assembly of songs mingling their musical roots from Newfoundland along with folk, bluegrass, country, Americana, and modern indie rock. Members Geraldine Hollett, Andrew Dale, and Phil Churchill have created a sound representative of their home province of Newfoundland while pushing the boundaries on the great Canadian songbook with their soothing vocal harmony and acoustically rich core.

Lyrically, The Once’s newest collection of songs encompass an arresting sense of loss with the belief that the good can be found in all people, and a desire to bring it out here for everyone to enjoy. A ray of hope in a confusing time. A port in a storm. A provocation with a grin.

This material is soaked with the poetic charm and sunny sadness of the trio’s collective disposition. Written across Newfoundland and recorded in the band’s GingerBeard House studio the band took their time creating this record. “Sometimes music takes a while to flow”, Geraldine Hollett explains. “If you don’t panic and instead surround yourself with people who love you that you can trust, magic can happen.”
