Tuesday Treasures ✨

This week I’m featuring the beautiful stained glass work of Valerie McGillis of Looking Through Glass.

Many of you will recognize Val as a former Alexandria resident and retired principal. Born and raised here, she now creates stunning stained glass pieces that continue to be some of the most admired treasures in the shop.

Each piece is handcrafted, unique, and catches the light in a way that photographs never quite capture.

I currently have just a few of Val’s pieces available. Stop by and have a look in person—you may just find the perfect piece for your home.

✨ Collected & Loved ✨

Some people collect shoes.

Apparently, I collect old wooden boxes.

I couldn’t even tell you exactly when it started, but over the years I’ve gathered a few that followed me home from antique shops, flea markets, and treasure hunts.

I love the worn wood, the old hardware, and the fact that each one has lived a life before finding its way here.

Some hold keepsakes, some hold absolutely nothing at all, and some are simply displayed because I enjoy looking at them.

I’ve learned that decorating isn’t always about finding the perfect piece. Sometimes it’s about surrounding yourself with things that make you smile.

✨ Tuesday Treasures ✨

This week’s treasure is something a little different.

These ReBeer glasses are handcrafted in Ontario from recycled beer bottles, giving each one a second life and a unique story.

I love pieces that are both practical and creative, and these glasses are a perfect example. They’re great for summer entertaining, cottage weekends, or simply enjoying your favourite beverage.

A treasure doesn’t always have to be old—sometimes it’s the story behind it that makes it special.

✨ Collected & Loved ✨

I don’t think gallery walls are ever truly finished.

Over the years, this wall has changed more times than I can count. Pieces have been added, moved, removed, and sometimes replaced with something that simply made me smile.

Some items have sentimental value. Some were thrifted finds. Some were gifts. Some followed me home because I couldn’t leave them behind.

I suppose that’s what I love most about a gallery wall—it tells a story. Not a perfectly planned story, but a collection of memories, treasures, and little things that make a house feel like home.

Every piece has a reason for being there.
