Most people think Headshot Day is about the camera…
but the hardest part isn’t the gear.
It’s the people.

Some employees walk in confident.
Some walk in terrified.
Some walk in thinking,
“Let’s get this over with.”

And that’s why Headshot Day is never just about taking photos.
It’s about managing energy, calming nerves, and guiding 25+ personalities through a moment they might not enjoy.

Before I take a single shot, I:

✨ Set expectations
✨ Walk them through the process
✨ Give simple, confidence-boosting coaching
✨ Show the final image so they know they look great

And almost every time, I hear:

“Oh… okay. That wasn’t so bad.”

Of course it wasn’t.
Because when you make people feel comfortable,
the photos take care of themselves. 📸

The brief time between packing up your photography gear to getting behind the wheel to drive home is when you get one of 2 feelings .

1-You think of something you SHOULD have done in the shoot.

2-You are excited to send the photos to the client because you know they are exactly what they wanted.

I will NEVER slip up like this!
I would be so embarrassed!

This is an over exaggeration but this could happen.
The photographer/ videographer knows nothing about what the client wants or needs.

I couldn't imagine getting the job from you and not knowing anything about what you need or what's important.

To avoid this, we always have a pre-event consultation so I know all of the particulars. that way we're on the same page.

Meetings can be a drag, but this quick meeting will help with efficiency delivery and the back and forth in the end.

I almost skipped the Business Expo…

But that morning something told me to just go.

And I’m so glad I did.

I reconnected with old clients, met new people, and caught the action at the $100K Pitch Competition.

The energy in that room was next-level — from the buzzing vendor market to the packed panels.

Sometimes you forget how powerful in-person connections really are.
Then one event reminds you why showing up still matters.

I was keeping a secret.

Unintentionally of course.

I've made a living by posting about my business.
I get content for people to market their businesses, services and causes for over 15 years.

And here I am not using every avenue to market my OTHER business;

I didn't realize how little I told people closest to me about it until my Wife's birthday party last weekend.

They all know that I shoot photos and videos but some of them knew nothing about this.

The party people were having a great time taking photos and video clips with the funny props only to ask where this photobooth came from.

Wow - That's my error.

That shouldn't happen. The people in your circle should have some idea about your business ventures right?

So I introduced the business to our friends because I know they will spread the word.

It’s the most common request I hear during headshots or event shoots.

And while we all want to look good—
No one wants to look like a wax figure version of themselves.

🎯 Here’s how I retouch photos:
✅ Bright eyes
✅ Clean skin
✅ White teeth
✅ No stray hairs

But I won’t Photoshop you into someone else.

Because the goal isn’t perfection—
It’s confidence.
It’s authenticity.
It’s you, looking your best.

That’s what photos + videos do:

I saw a magician perform at a gala last weekend—and it got me thinking…
Your personal brand might seem magical to others, but here’s the reality ⬇️

At this gala, the magician had everyone amazed with every trick—cards flying, objects disappearing, and the crowd gasping in surprise. This guy was also hilarious.

Honestly, even as I was snapping photos, I couldn't help but wonder, "How does he make it look so effortless?"

Then it hit me: The magic isn't instant. It’s hours of practice, rehearsing each move until it feels natural. Then he has to perfect the storytelling part that is his stage presence.

Your personal brand works the exact same way. It doesn't grow magically overnight. It takes thoughtful planning, consistent effort, and—of course—photos and videos to showcase the real YOU.

You spent months planning the perfect event…
But two weeks later, it’s like it never happened.

No photos.
No video.
No buzz.
Just silence.

You even convinced 300 people to wear “business formal” and not complain about it.

BUT... you didn’t book a photo or video team.
